Weyerhaeuser has banned weapons on their property

It has been a policy of Weyerhaeuser to prohibit the carrying of "dangerous weapons" onto one of their facilities for as long as I have had cause to go there. Recently they took the step of sending faxes to Common Carriers (trucking companys) citing that there is some new Federal Regulation and that they will be conducting weapon's searches to all vehicles accessing their property. What this has to do with me is I drive a truck and sometimes have to deliver or pick up at cargo at some of their facilities, and I AM, SOMETIMES armed.

Does anyone know what exact federal regulation they may be thinking applies?

I've already emailed Weyerhaeuser to only get no response...go figure.

I guess I'll just have to add them to my list of places not to ever go.

Didn't they used to allow access to their properties for hunting? They (or another paper company, but I'm almost positive it's them) used to allow hunting access to their property in Va.

AFAIK, Weyerhauser has no say in the lands it allows hunting on, at least here in OK. They mangae the land, and own the timber on the land, but the land itself is still Government property. As a matter fo fact, one of the prerequisites to taking control from the entities that be was that Weyerhauser MUST allow hunting on these lands.

As far as I'm concerned, self-defense is a "lawful purpose" under 18 USC 930, and carrying with a state-issued and recognized CCW is "lawful carrying." I won't go out of my way to test that presumption, of course, rather I'll just go about my business as usual.

I drive truck also and guns are addressed in the employee handbook . It states that even if you are allowed to carry a gun you may not do so in any terminal . If they are wanting to restrict weapons on their private property at Weyerhauser it is probably their prerogative . Also it depends on what they consider a "search". A "rip your sleeper apart" or just ask you .Your company will probably not back you since it seems that customers of that size are more important than their employees . The big question is "What will happen if you are found to be carrying one"? Check it at the door , leave without your load , leave and have someone else deliver the load ? You better know all the answers before the question becomes real big . Have your company question this in detail . The term "weapon" needs to be defined . Uncle Sam in his infinite wisdom chose to teach many of us how to kill with the daily newspaper . Now I would guess that somewhere in the law the idea of a "pre ban" New York Times is described in detail .Also I would bet that the security folks don't have a real clear idea on this subject either .

Weyerhaeuser does specifically mention specific weapons; guns, long knives, and explosives..etc. And I'm sure this only applies to their commercial mill sites not forest land where they do still allow hunting. In what I read they mention that all "security incedences" will be documented and that they will contact the USCG. The very worst they can do to me in my own state is deny me access to their property. My standard answer when anyone asks if they can search my truck is Hell No! and I drive a day cab(no sleeper). I just find the whole policy suspect but that should not really surprise me; their world corperate HQ is between Seattle and Tacoma. Right smack dab in the middle of liberal heaven.
