what do they mean when they are refering to a silencer as wet or dry? im guessing they dont mean they dunk the thing in a bucket of water.

Some older suppressors had fibrous baffle washers that if not wet would burn away. That aside a dry suppressor will be a tad bit quieter when wet. The word "WET" can be water but most use wd40 or silicone spray there are also several liquids made for this.

Wet Suppressor = Needs some form of coolant. Not good for sustained fire.

Dry Suppressor = Does not need any coolant.

However, most dry suppressors can have coolant, such as water, added to improve their performance.
