Western KS. deer hunting

Next week I'm going out for the first time in SW Ks. (Unit 17) I've drawn an "any deer" permit and would like to take a nice buck with a handgun (.41 mag) but I'll be taking a rifle along too. Most, if not all, of the property I'll be hunting is open pasture and stubble fields. Advice from anyone who's hunted this kind of country would be appreciated

A .41 magnum? hmmm I've been working on loads for mine but hesitate bringing it. I want another wallhanger then I'll try with the .41. I think it will be good out to 100 yards though.

It might be but my confidence is lacking on anything beyond 75 yds. I'm loading a Nosler 210 gr. HP over 20 gr of H110.

SK,

I don't know what you're shooting or if the gun is scoped but your loading will take you out to 100 yards (rested).

I took a whitetail two years ago at 40 yards with a Smith Model 57 loaded with a Sierra 170 JHC 25.3 gr. of H-110.

Tomorrow is the first day of our deer season. This year I'm shooting a TC Contender chambered in 444 Marlin a real boomer shooting a 265 gr. Horandy FP with 000 grains of IMR 4198

Welcome to handgun hunting, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
