Western Australia Confiscates Bolt-Action Rifles

A blog from Western Australis explaining the latest lunacy there in the context of their firearms laws. It basically boils down to modern bolt actions with a pistol grip and modern chassis are being banned because they look scary and military like, while actual bolt-action rifles in military service are still allowed.

Unlike the U.S. however, the banned rifles are being confiscated.
 
It won't be long before all Australians will be criminalized for having any type of gun. The criminals won't care, though. I guess Australians don't care enough about their own safety or independence. They aren't losing their gun rights because of foreign invaders - they're doing it to themselves.

The same thing can and would happen here, if we let it. Don't vote for gun banners or those who support gun bans of any kind.
 
In addition to the advantages for the criminals by disarming the Australian citizenry, what about the risks from an invasion from the myriad of countries nearby with long histories of doing such things?
What are those politicians thinking? :eek:
 
Australian law breaks firearms into several categories. Category A includes air guns and single-shot long guns. Citizens must provide a "genuine reason" to be licensed for one of those.

Category B firearms are non-selfloading guns like bolt-action rifles. To be approved for one of those, citizens must demonstrate a "genuine need" that is not satisfied by a Category A firearm.

Category D firearms are selfloading or pump-action long guns. Those are highly restricted and usually reserved for government use.

At this point, the police are making the arbitrary determination that Category B firearms resembling Category D firearms are Category D. They're confiscating them as such.
 
unfortunately nothing new. Although extending it to pistol grips is certainly a step up. WA is the worst offender at this. A while back they confiscated a bunch of air rifles because the barrel shrouds looked like suppressors.

Tom, only pump action shotguns are cat D. pump rifles are still ok at the moment

cat a includes bolt and lever rimfires.
cat b is essentially the same as cat a except for centrefire.
 
Oh, remember the discussions that nasty appearance doesn't mean a thing in gun debates.

It's a modern sporting rifle. Isn't that enough? :rolleyes:
