Just came into ownership of a West point Model 948E, Stevens Arms, Westfield, Mass USA.
Proof tested 12 gauge, break down single shot. 12gauge 3inch chamber.
There is no choke involved.
Question: Can 2 3/4 inch, shot or buckshot shell be shot in this 3 inch chamber. Thanks in advance for any and all replys.
 
Yes on the buck shot

I believe just about any 2 3/4 shell will work in your Stevens. 3 inch is the maximum length shell it will shoot.
Surely there is some choke built into the barrel unless it has been shortened. Typicaly single shots were full or modified choke.
I hope you have as good of luck with the 948E as I have had with a Stevens West Point model 167 pump 12 ga. I have owned the 167 for 35 years or more. I have used it for every type of legal game from deer down to squirrel with out any problems.
 
Yes, 2 3/4" shells are perfectly safe in any 3" chambered gun in good condition.

It is recommended that steel shot not be used in a full choke barrel due to the risk of bulging the barrel or peening out the choke.

Also, sabot slugs generally do not give good accuracy in a smooth bore barrel.
