West German sig p226 trigger bar spring quick question.

So I'm leaning towards keeping my west German sig in original condition.
What is the deal with the old style trigger bar spring? does it wear down and break over time? Does this cause damage to the frame? If it doesn't cause damage to the frame then I'm definitely going to keep it in original condition and just order some spare old springs. Any idea on the life span of the trigger bar spring?

They are a wear part. Every 10,000 rounds seems about right IIRC. Most people will never change one unless it breaks. Most people break them detail stripping their pistol.

If it's the same thing that was on my 220, change it on a regular basis. Mine broke during a match and rendered the gun a paperweight. It didn't mess up the aluminum though.

BYW I seriously doubt the gun saw 10,000 rounds before it broke, more like 2000.

The following is SIG SAUER’s current parts replacement schedule (numbers of rounds), with some comments of my own:

Barrel: If the pistol exhibits keyholing or unacceptable accuracy.
Decocking lever spring: 10,000
Extractor: 20,000
Extractor spring: 20,000
Firing pin: 20,000
Firing pin spring: 20,000
Magazine spring: When magazine fails to lock the slide open.
Recoil spring: 5,000
Roll pins for breechblock retention (pins, HD): 5000
Safety lock spring: 20,000
Slide catch lever and spring: 10,000
Takedown lever: 20,000
Trigger bar spring: 10,000

Mainspring (hammer spring): SIG SAUER evidently makes no formal recommendation about the mainspring, but lbj was told by customer service that guns with 40,000 rounds are still igniting their ammunition with the original spring. If ignition problems do develop and cannot be determined to be due to other reasons, the obvious course would be to try a new mainspring.

old & new

The OP mentions "old style" trigger drawbar spring. And in fact there is an old style, which is sort of half moon shaped, and a newer style, which has a sort of loop in the center. I'm not sure if the two styles are interchangeable.

I had both in my parts box, and replaced them in kind, either at the spec'd round count, appx, or upon noting delaminating or corrosion at the bow.
