Went shooting over the weekend,,,

That was my major celebration of Memorial day,,,
I took an insane amount of guns to the range.

My goal that day was to shoot,,,
At least one mag or cylinder,,,
From each of my handguns.

That took me the better part of three hours,,,
But I haven't done that in many years,,,
I also didn't have many guns then.

The good thing was that I was reminded,,,
How much fun my SA revolvers are.

The bad thing is,,,
I'm still cleaning guns.

I even ran 6 rounds through my French 8mm Lebel,,,
I wish ammunition wasn't so rare/costly,,,
That big lady shoots like a dream.

I was reminded why I bought that funny looking NEOS in the first place,,,
Dang space-blaster looking thing shoots like a dream.

I shot a box of 50 cartridges through Lucille (my Mom's Colt Frontier Scout),,,
Had good memories of Mom and I on the back porch shooting at tin cans.

I went through more than a 550 round bulk pack of Federal .22 LR,,,
Three boxes of .38 Special and a half a box of .357 Mag,,,
A half a box of .380 and a half a box of 9mm,,,
And five rounds of .22 short.

What made it more fun was that I got to shoot some other stuff as well,,,
More people than usual were at the range on Sunday,,,
I let people shoot a few of my handguns,,,
They let me shoot a few of theirs.

Guns I had never fired before included:
A very nice Soviet Makarov,,, :)
A Ruger LCR in .357 (Ouch),,,
A .44 Special snubbie,,,
A Glock G26 in 9mm,,,
And a Springer EMP. :)

That EMP in 9mm was nice,,,
But he said it cost him $1,099.95.

Anyways it was a very nice day,,,
I had a cooler full of Snaffle and sandwiches,,,
And a comfortable folding chair under a big old shade tree.

Out of the entire collection of my handguns,,,
Most people wanted to shoot my little Taurus .22 PLY,,,

Hope your weekend had a great component like mine.

Hey Aarond,

Sounds like a great day. I too had a fantastic time with handguns. I took first place in revolver event on Sunday. My first, first place in a revolver event ever. Worked hard at it and it paid off. What a feeling. I used a 686 by the way.

Its no suprise your Taurus was so popular. I would love one of those pistolas.

Wish i lived close to help you clean. I usually take cleaning time to be bonding time.

Have fun and make sure them bores are shiny.

By the way, im sure everyone was really impressed with your very very nice collection of handguns. You have gr8 taste in handguns as i always mention.

Hello Amin,,,

I think the reason the PLY was so popular,,,
Was because of what almost everyone said.

"They've been in their catalog for years but this is the first time I've seen one."

The way I was shooting Sunday,,,
I wouldn't have won any side matches,,,
Although I did fairly well with that Soviet Makarov.

Now I understand what people like about them,,,
A very natural pointing pistol,,,
Like a Walther PPK,,,
Or my Bersa.

'Grats on your first place my friend,,,

Great thread idea, Aarond

I did something similar, but didn't bring all of my guns.

I shot my old H&R "22 Special". Fun gun, but it needs work. Lock-up is horrible; it spits lead. I need to get this worked-on.

I shot the home defense Ruger SP-101 with the CTC grip; I can shoot this better at 25 yards than I can my full size 1911. At self defense ranges, the 1911 is easier and quicker. If I laser'd my 1911, I'm sure it'd shoot just as well.

I shot my S&W 625; just an awesome gun. I had a few good handfuls of full moon clips ready to go, and got a compliment from the range officer.

I shot my wife's Hi-Power, the white dot fell out of the front XS sight, so it is hard to print good groups with. I need to figure out some cheap way to get that fixed; maybe white nail polish. I'm reminded what a fantastic shape this frame has for the human hand, and how easy it is to shoot accurately and quickly.

I shot my Para GI Expert 1911. Found out it is not 100% reliable with square-nosed bullets, even with a full powder charge and a clean gun. Full power 45s sound about like a scaled back 44 Magnum, which is a nice sound. I'm getting better and better with this gun; I can't wait until we have an action shooting night that doesn't get rained out. (the first three of this season have all been rained out)

I shot my wife's Buck Mark Contour. Best trigger I've ever felt on a stock automatic 22. Better than my well worn-in Ruger Mk. II. Better than the classic High-Standard and Colts I've shot.

I think I'm going to swear off hardcast lead bullets in the future; they're just too dirty.

I took a good 4 hours to clean all my guns too.

I didn't shoot any long guns. I'm itching to get out with the Marlin 1894 again, but am dreading the occasional feed problems it has.

Hello Smaug,,,

I shot the home defense Ruger SP-101 with the CTC grip; I can shoot this better at 25 yards than I can my full size 1911.

Lately I've been shooting my S&W snubbies and my other mouse-guns a lot more than before,,,
I am constantly amazed that at 25 yards I seem to be better than with a 4" handgun,,,
Now go out to 50 yards or more and the opposite is true for me.

On Sunday though I was hitting 4 out of 6 clay pigeons with my Model 34 snubbie.

At the opposite end of my gun spectrum,,,
I could barely hit the ground with my 6" Model 629.

I'm glad you had some fun though,,,
Later my friend.
