Hey all,

I'm helping my buddy try and find more in info about his shotgun with Wells Fargo markings and stamps.

I'm mainly asking for resources that that give more info about what to look for and common signs of a fake. I'm fairly sure at this point it's a fake but wnat to put a little effort into checking i out.

Thanks

It's best to assume it's a fake. Each towns agent purchased what few guns they bought from local businesses. Most employees used their own weapons. Wells Fargo is a popular name for fakers to use.

Have you tried to identify the proof or other marks? IINM, Wells Fargo may have owned some guns, but they didn't make them. If you look closely there may be some maker's marks -- of course, a good fake will have had them removed. But, unless your buddy paid big bucks, it may be an okay fake, but not a good one. You may have look very closely -- get the the barrels off the gun and have another look with a magnifying glass under good lighting. Posting some pictures may help with the ID.

A friend here bought one of those "Wells Fargo" marked shotguns and showed it to a specialist. He went through the marking letter by letter and pointed out how it differed from the stamp on a known authentic gun. The seller must have known, the price was little if any higher than for any other Remington in the same condition.

I will get pics soon.

It does have the W F stamped on the left barrel.

Just a little more info:

It's a 20" 12 gauge Husqvarna Vapenfabriks 12 gauge s/s

We are fairly sure it s fake but now we are trying to get more info on the gun itself. From what we are finding we the s/n is extremely low. s/n 2984 whereas all that I have seen otherwise online are in the ten and twenty thousands.
