Well, took the plunge...

Well, I took the plunge and purchased my first .40 cal semiauto.

After taking several out for "test drives" at several ranges in my area, soliciting comments from many of you here, etc.

I decided upon:

H&K .40 full-size var. 1 (wanted a var 2 since I'm left-handed, but I guess I should "get used to" what the "everyday" folks use).

Thank you all for your exceedingly great input, feedback, etc!!!

You can always just get an ambi-safety for your USP, then you don't have to get use to anything! I think it's about a $75 for parts & labor. Enjoy your HK!

See what you did now.

By starting with the best you have nothing to work up to. Your only hope is to buy more HK's

Seriously is a great gun hope you and your grandkids love it.

Ambi safety is a kit of 3 parts: the left side control lever (and shaft), the right side lever, and a pin to secure the right lever to the shaft.

If you go the HKPRO boards as suggested by Shoney, you will find detailed instructions for replacing the lever. Instructions are the same for converting to V2 or to ambi or to any other variant for that matter.

One thing I don't like about the ambi is that the lever on the side of your shooting hand will rub against your palm when you decock. It bothers some people, others are OK with it. Personally, that is the only thing I didn't like about it but I kept it on mine anyway.

If you are mechanically inclined you can do it yourself. Otherwise send it to HK or have an armorer do it.
