Well, the transition is nearly complete.

At one time I owned 1 genuine Colt SAA and half a dozen Italian made clones. The imports were good guns and I had no real complaints with any of them. But when I compared them to the real deal Colt, they paled a bit. They just weren't as...nice.

In the past couple years I found myself selling off the clones and replacing them with genuine Single Action Army revolvers. Last week the last of the Italian guns saddled up and rode off to a new owner. Now I only have four SAAs, but they all came from Hartford.

Now I am doing the same thing with my 1911s. I had 3 real Colts and two clones. The Norinco was a great shooter, but I passed it off to another guy. The RIA was a good bargain and works fine, but I am in the process of acquiring a new Colt to replace it. Once the new gun arrives I will dispose of the Filipino gun.

I have only one AR15. I bought it brand new in 1979. Still have it. Lots of companies make ARs these days, but my simple (doesn't even have a forward assist) SP1 does what I need it to do and I like having the name Colt on the side of it.

There's a ton of FAL replicas are out there. Mine is from Belgium. Same with my West German H&K 91. I bought it new in 1980.

I just came to the realization that I prefer having the real thing.

You seem to be talking about all older production guns.
The last time I looked at a gun with a Colt stamped on it there was Umarex stamped on the other side.

Yes, I've been going toward more quality as well. I do still like some odd novelty type guns, though.

No argument from me that Colt has abandoned the civilian market and it's fan base. Sad and tragic. In the mean time, I was still able to find some older models (newest was 1993) to fill the void. Here's hoping someone buys Colt who wants to make guns again.

Dunno why you would feel compelled to offload the P.I. 1911. They're pretty fine guns. My RIA was my first 1911, I've since bought a few "nicer" American made units (no Colts) but the RIA isn't going anywhere. It won't spoil & it don't eat nothin'. ;)

Nothing wrong with the RIA. I just find myself in my golden years preferring genuine Colts. In process on a new Super in stainless for carry. I have a blued Super Series '70 but thought the stainless would be more practical and the new ones have better sights.

BTW- When I bought my RIA it was $325 brand new. Now they are around $600. A new Colt is only $200 more. At 50% of price the RIA is a great idea. At 85%...not so much.
