Well, the Sacramento Trap Club is now a goner.

Was supposed to be last Sunday, 9/24/06. It got a reprieve until this Saturday. I always shot Wednesdays. Shot today, came home, cleaned gun, and "socked" it and now the trap gun is in the very back of the safe.

There are a few alternatives, but none like the club had.

:(

You gonna tell us the story or should we guess?

Umm, Real Estate sale?

Umm, Enviro-nazis?

Uh, noise pollution?

Conservationists?

Anti-gunners? ;)

City owned land. They have chosen an auto mall to put on the property. Eminent domain and all that. The club tried some court motions, but the sales taxes from an auto mall signed the deal no matter what the argument.
Been waiting since spring and then June, but this one is it.
Think the club has been there since 1920 or slightly before.

Gun club or auto mall? Hmmmmmmm.....

There are a few places nearby but nothing large enough to host ATA shoots.

An era passes.

If the city owned the land I didn't think that eminent domain etc was necessary. Once the lease committment was up they can do what they want....

That would be correct. I don't know the exact language of the lease (or whatever agreement) but it seems that the city would have long ago taken this land for other use just to bring in more money.
There was some issue of ...how... it was "dedicated" so possibly it wasn't even a lease. I have heard that it was dedicated (under what conditions I have no idea) for "recreational use."

Whatever the particulars, it will cease after Saturday.

Your Turn Otto Mattik

Just move one state east. We have places to shoot trap and sporting clays. If inanimate targets become boring, these are thousands of acres of public land to shoot bunnies, ground squirrels, and what not.:D

Welcome to the "club", Otto

All three of the trap ranges that were near me have all gone belly-up. The best one (Dover Bay Gun Club) went down because the residents didn't like the noise. It got taken over as parkland.

The Rt. 58 trap range has gone off the radar, and I have no idea why.

The Winchester trap/skeet range out to the east of here in Hambden township closed down years ago. It had a nice clubhouse, but I'm not about to drive 50 miles to see if there is anything left of it.
