If anyone remembers the problems I was having... trying to decide on which kind of AR to get (Carbon 15, Bushmaster 16" or 20", etc.). As it turns out, I took my girlfriend to the local gun shop to try out the rifles.
Surprisingly, she fell in love with an AK-47! I have to say it looked really good on her when she had it in the firing from hip position . She said it "just felt right." Well, coming from handguns, that "right feel" means an awful lot.
As far as I'm concerned, I would be happy with any rifle, but my favorite by far is the M1A. Because they are a bit out of my price range, I had to choose between the AR and the AK. I chose the AK.
I ordered a milled Bulgarian SLR100 w/ original 50's era furniture. from a guy named Jerry (I think) at CDNN Investments. Great guy, he assurred me that the rifle I was being sent was going to be made by Gordon Tech, which was what I wanted. I bought 4 new 30rd. steel Bulg. mags w/case, a new 40rnd. mag, cleaning kit, manual, sling and a couple of other cheap things. Total cost, delivered, with my $1 contribution to the NRA was $515.
I have fired a .308 and -06 bolt action Remingtons and an M16 at a military family day, but I have never fired an AK or 7.62x39.
The rifle will be here Friday or Saturday and I can't wait. I'll post about it, so hopefully CDNN got it right.
I also ordered the US polymer stock set from Kvar for a little extra length. I like the old wood, as it has a warm feel and trophy like appearance, but I would rather use the polymer stocks for camping, etc.
Cheers, and thanks for all the help re:ARs.
