Well, I've sworn off The West Wing...

I hadn't really thought about it because baseball's been on and I've been busy, but the other night, West Wing was on and I decided to catch the second half.

...

Well, after vomiting all over my living room in disgust at the blatant propoganda, I've decided to give up the show- good writing or not. That last episode displayed none of the charm or intelligence of the previous season and was instead a demonstration of how hate filled writers can categorically demonize an entire party, faith, and people.

Regardless of your position on the issue in question, the dangerous categorical demonization of people and indoctrination of a watching public is nauseating propoganda and nothing higher. I can respect an intellegent debate or rational discussion. I cannot stand emotional one-sided propoganda.

I'm better off playing with my new Sheridan Blue Streak anyways! :p

The first episode this year was bad enough but now they demonize us and then act benevolent in their appreciation of the constitution. What they're really saying is "If it weren't illegal, we'd use the government to hunt them down and destroy them because they are dangerous." funny, I never thought I would need a weapon to protect myself from a pacifist hippie in hollywood. makes me wonder which is the greater immediate threat to me. The criminal drug culture or the thugs in Armani selling liberal lies to the masses. I better get some extra ammo.

I thought the President's castigation of the Dr. Laura character was a little unlikely, given the importance of talk show hosts to re-election. I also thought the scene was excellent. It was sharply written, witty, well-acted, a highpoint in tv drama. I like the show enough to overlook its anti-gun bias.

I have to second this. I know that it is propaganda, and if I ever get a nielson book in the mail again I will say I do not watch the show, but I think it is one of the best shows on television today.

I like to think of it as a well-writen and well-acted chance to see inside a liberal's mind. They really do mean well. In the end, they want to make everyone better off just like conservatives do, liberals just haven't given up on socialism quite yet.

In further defense of the show, the closing scene on Joel's stoop really touched me. Once Toby had realized that it was wrong to run a police state, even with the best of intentions, the five of them sitting around realized what freedom was all about. God Bless America.

And heck, like George Carlin says, the TV has two knobs on it - One to turn it off and one to change the channel! (Dated, I know. When is the last time anyone made a TV with knobs on it?)

Propoganda always seems well written to those who aren't the target and to those with the complete facts. Envoking emotion devoid of complete qualitative facts is basically propoganda (even though I've strayed long ago, I could easily address each and every one of his questions- as should any half-competent person). This episode was basically sanctioning "feel-good politically correct" hate. That's sick. I can disagree with someone a whole lot, I can feel angry, even bitter... but I never delighted in hatred.

Anyways, I'm done with the show.

Lemme spit this bile outta my mouth and present a more objective view... it is no coincidence that the Right to Religion and Right to Keep and Bear Arms come under attack together, they are closely bound together. That said, I understand completely if someone can't see it from my side so let me give you the anti-gun version of what happened in that scene:

CAST

Principle Bartlet - Admired and powerful, well in position to bully a mere student with his beliefs, calls Robert in front of an assembly.

Robert "Robin-killer" Jones - Loud and proud songbird killer and self-appointed "hunter" this is the LAST boy you want representing the RKBA.

P: Robbie? Robbie "Robin-killer" is that you?

R: Yes, sir.

P: [Patronizing] You know, I hear what you've been telling the kids and I'm very impressed. I'm impressed how you manage to kill harmless songbirds and say it's your right!

R: Sir, I don't say it... my Paw does!

P: Oh that's right! He's the one that says you need guns to shoot the President, isn't that right?

R: To rebel, if need be, that's right sir.

P: [Sarcastically] How's he doing in jail? Is the appeal for killing your mamma in self-defense going well yet, son? While you're pondering that one... would it be okay to shoot someone's pet dog?

R: [Confused silence]

P: After all, a dog's just an animal and shooting animals is what hunting is, isn't it? Before you answer, let me ask you if you think hunting is really anything more than slaughtering innocent animals that don't have half a chance against a man with a high-powered rifle? Basically murder?

R: [Squirms defiantly but unable to respond]

P: Could you tell me, Robbie, what guns are useful for besides wholesale killing? How has the world been made a better place through these weapons... [disgustedly] guns? [In a Holy Rage] How can you sit there selfishly enjoying your murderous sport at the sake of innocent children?!

R: [Cowed, he hangs his head in shame]

P: [Nods to his vice principle] Now if only I could give that talking to EVERY gun owner!

[The auditorium cheers]

P: [Lamenting] So many courageous police officers, soliders, and noble heroes can't stand their guns... how can anyone be for them?!

Seem ridiculous? Outrageous? Couldn't stand the fact the defender of RKBA was Robbie or that he was barely equipped to respond- nor did he? Even worse that every other pro-RKBA person is painted to be like Robbie?

That's what that scene felt like to me.

They are trying to preach and teach us how to live after getting tru the last year doing a real program. Could be worse, just look at Will& Grace that is a sick show now with the same force feed of a crock of crap. Plus the star of The West Wing thinks Klinton and Gore are gods almost as Sheen is just as bad or worse than Rosie O duffus on the gun banning. Ban guns? they should ban network TV and do the world a favor and stop trying to potty train kids that guns are bad and gays are better than normal people. But now anyone in the White House is "factualy incorrect" and not a lying as the law says. Sorry best get off the soap box before the FBI comes after me for being normal and saying the White house needs barbed wire and guard towers to keep the felons in. :)

What took so long Paladin? "West Wing" is crap. "Will & Grace's" "acceptance" speech at the recent awards show made me sick. The writers have taken this as an invitation to blatantly shove their agenda in our faces. The list of shows I don't watch just keeps growing. It's not such a bad thing, though, because I spend more time at places like this, reloading, and reading (all of which are more productive and enjoyable).

And as Gallagher says - it has a knob labelled "brightness" but that doesn't seem to work.

PaladinX13:

Man, before I re-read your post I thought this was a REAL old episode.

Man, don't know how I'd hold up to such a beating by a self-righteous turd like sheen.

Battler.

There are only a few things on my list of stuff not to watch. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC. Which leaves me the much better cable stations, and FOX News, which has been great.

You haven't seen the "crap" and you swore off it before you could? And how does one recognize crap without seeing it or smelling it?

Dat's easy one, tom. It's like if you see a dung beetle, you know there's a big pile nearby.

In this case, Martin Sheen is the dung beetle.

I too have been able to swear it off without wasting any time viewing it. When I heard that Comrade Sheen was in it, that was it for me. They should rename the show 'The Left Wing'
