I stop by the LGS this morning to try a few 9MM I am looking for a 9 to shoot steel plates .I run a 1911sa now for competition and the 1911 fits my hand like a glove again short trigger shoe with thin grips.
I ran threw a number of guns this morning
CZ Optima nice but still a super long trigger pull with no adjustable rear sight.
I also check the sig # model 220 low end $$ 550.00 again not crazy abut the gun
Next HK new model 9MM o.k. but still did not do any thing for me.
I did like the SA Range Officers in 9MM but a little on the high side.
I then started a discussion on the Ruger the sr9 fits my hand like a glove so after wheeling and dealing on a new SR9 we came to 430.00
I own a number of Rugers all shoot excellent
Ruger BH 45 LC
Ruger B H 41 Mag
Ruer (2) Old army
Ruger LCP
Ruger Single six
Ruger 22/45
I hope she is a shooter

Congrats on your purchase.
They are nice guns, don't dry fire it without a mag installed though. Or look at removing the mag disconnect. My SR45 had a few light strikes until I removed the mag disconnect.

Congrats

I hear you on the sr9 grip angle I had the fs sr45 and really liked the feel in my hand it aims and shoots with very little effort very acurate out the box great warranty. Unfortunately for me I had repeated problems with it and after two trips to Ruger, Ruger cs agreed to exchange it for a new beautiful fs SR1911 stainless. I think I came out ahead on that one. 449$$ vs 749$$ put 1000 rds thru it sold it for 720$$ went down the street to the lgs and got the just came out at that time Glock 41 since striker fire was what I was originaly after anyways. 3700 trouble free rounds later not one ftf to report. Thanks Ruger CS I love my G41.

I hit a 12" plate at 50 yards pretty consistently with both of my SRs they are shooters and will hit as much as your skill will allow :D

I have the SR9C. Great little gun. More accurate than it should be and came with one of the best out-of-box triggers I've experienced thus far. I would keep an eye on the slide stop spring though. These seem to have the propensity to pop loose on some guns. It's easy to pop back in, but in cases like this, it's better to have Ruger place the entire part.

question?
Ruger sr 9 slide lock
when you install a new mag to reload can you use the side lock to send the slide into battery or do you have to sling shot the side ?

Standard operation of most semi autos: either.

Some pistols have a slide lock (or slide release) that is very stiff, can need some breaking in, or even racking the slide is an easier alternative.

Some pocket pistols don't have a slide lock that is accessible to the user to let loose the slide so racking the slide back forcefully is the only means.

Some schools teach to rack the slide (overhand or slingshot method) regardless of the pistol because that method will always exist while placement of buttons can differ or be confusing.

I would check out "cornered cat" on the web and look for the instructional shooting articles. Good labelled pictures and demonstrations there.

Glad you like the pistol. Years ago I almost bought an SR9c (I had read the gun mag hype) but walked away with a negative impression after the gun store lady slathered up with some hand cream before giving it to me. :p

Some slide locks aren't meant to act as a slide release, the SR pistols are one of them. Repeated use of it as a slide release can cause failures to lock back on the last round. With that said I slingshot all my pistols manually, it transfers over from one gun to the next, no having to mess with slide locks of different sizes and shapes in different locations.

flintforever - you're going to love the SR9. I have had mine for about 8 years. Never a lick of problems with it. I started out shooting commercial ammo . . now all it gets is my reloads. I likes both the Lee 356-120 TC and the Lyman/Ideal 358-242 120 gr. RN.

I have only had one Failure to Feed - that was when I was qualifying with it for my MI CPL license. I hadn't cleaned it before the class and by the end of the day, I did have one get hung up - the only one in 8 years so I think that's a pretty good track record. It was quickly cleared and I continued shooting with no other problems.

I like the way it feels in my hands - just sort of "natural". WhenI purchased it, I was also considering the SR9c but opted for the full size SR. I carry on the belt, under a shirt tail (AZ and MI) and have no problems with it. I think the SR9 is just a good all around semi-auto 9mm - for CCW, Range, HD and I have never regretted purchasing it.

Good luck with your's and enjoy!

I purchased the 9E due to price difference and the fact that the sight can be drifted, regardless of the marketing slogan that they can't be adjusted. Trust me, they can. My front sight was off from the factory, so a vice righted them inline where they should have been to start with. Since I bought the gun with the purpose of installing after market sights, I didn't pay the extra for the SR series. I'm not a huge fan of the loaded indicator on the SR series but, didn't let it stop me from getting the SR 45 either. Just icing on the cake that the 9E didn't have it.

As far as performance , once I fired a few factory rounds and grouped 3 inches left at 15 yards, which made me notice the slight out of kilter front sight, the gun has performed flawlessly. I'm about 400 rounds in with factory and straight reloads now. Zero, misfires, failure's to feed, etc.... The gun is extremely accurate, very reliable, and a real pleasure to shoot. After doing so just a bit, I have decided no night sights needed.

I am shooting a Missourri Bullet small ball 124 grain powder coated bullet in front of 4 grains Bullseye now. Extremely accurate and clean shooting. Just a great gun. Out the door at my local gun shop for $355. SR9 was $430. So, you got a solid deal as these guns have increased in price sharply over the last 3 months in this area. A lot of people are buying them and after shooting them and owning one, I know why. You won't regret buying that pistol. God Bless

Next question ?
The Ruger sr9 what other gun manufacture come close to leather holsters.
I have a lead on some good old hand made holsters but he doesn't list the Ruger sr9.
I been reading it seems the glock 17 22 31 are compatible to the sr9 ??

Well I strip the gun clean it up I did remove the magazine safety other then that I hope I can improve on the trigger.I weight it at 4 3/4lbs a little on the heavy side for my trigger finger.I would love to get it at 3 1/2 lbs it not going to be a carry gun.
I did notice on my model they must of remove the small hole on the firing block next to the striker pin .I only had to depress the striker pin for the block to slide of the top frame.
I will report back next week going to head upstate and will try the sr9 .

I'm not a huge fan of the loaded indicator on the SR series but, didn't let it stop me from getting the SR 45 either. Just icing on the cake that the 9E didn't have it.

It's fairly easy to remove. Pop out the roll pin that holds in the LCI and remove the nub that the casing pushes up against and causes the LCI to protrude out. Takes just a couple minutes and you no longer have to deal with that giant LCI popping out the top of the slide.

Yep. Pondered that as it started to just bug me, Become content with the fact it is coming off after I picked up the 9E. Honestly, I have been too busy fooling with and, shooting the 9E to fool with the SR 45 much. All things come in time. :)God Bless

Well had a chance to shoot the new SR9
Total rounds fired 100 factory Remington FMJ
The gun ran like a champ not one problems.
The only problem for me was getting use to striker fire.
I am a hammer and sear guy (1911) so it took about 40 rounds of different hand position to get the gun to shoot like my 1911's.
I did get it: 12 yard two hand hold unsupported ONE HOLE GROUP
I would like to get the creep out of the trigger other then that it seem to me like shooting a two stage military rifle trigger.
The trigger breaks at 4 1/2lbs with my Gauge
I like the trigger with out the slide attach could live with it so seem the major problem is some were with the srtiker fire system.I have no interest on CC with the SR9 any thing can be done to the top slide ?
I did remove the mag: BLOCK
The gun is a tack driver next step finding a good lead bullet both weight and diameter
Powder I think Win: 231

My SR9 trigger is better after I spray a little Rem oil on the firing pin and trigger. The firing pin is is pretty clean after 200 rounds. I shot the SR9 and Beretta 92fs yesterday. Both ran great but I am liking the striker trigger more and more. Goodluck with yours!

I think I understand you. You like the trigger pull characteristic when the slide is off and you want to lower the trigger pull weight by seeing if you can modify anything in the slide.

There will be limitations because striker fired pistols usually don't have as crisp a break as single action hammer fired so don't expect the same results. Also, the trigger pull will change once the slide is on because the striker itself has a spring that you resist against when you pull the trigger. You could conservatively stone or polish the striker face (which is in the slide. disassemble first) and sear face (in the frame) at their engagement surfaces without changing the angles. I would avoid dremel tools and use a hard arkansas stone or rouge cloth (bought one online for...3 dollars?). Or metal polish on a rag. And as usual polish any parts of the trigger bar/connector that makes metal-on-metal contact.

Also, Ghost Inc makes an aftermarket connector. Just google "ghost SR9" Some are drop in, I don't know if they have a hand-fit DIY version. Caveat with all aftermarket parts, if there are issues, bring it back to stock and they usually go away.
