Well I took everyones advice who responded to my other thread and bought my 1st wheel gun!

Very slightly used SS Ruger GP100 6" with full barrel shroud.

Got it for $349.00 with box and original papers.

I LOVE the grips, the weight and the balance, I can't wait to shoot it.

Range report will be coming this weekend.

I have one question. I have no idea what kind of sights it has on it. The front sight is flourescent yellow to go along with the adjustable rear sight. Is anyone familiar with these sights? They seem OK, but is there a better option?

Thanks to all members who helped me pick out my first wheel gun!

I feel like Dirty Harry when I hold it...."Go ahead...make my day".

Nice buy, exactly one month from today i'll be turning 21 and I plan to get something very close to that. I hope you have many fun shooting escapades w/ your new gun

Great choice. That was my first wheel gun as well. It is still my only since I really love semi-autos! I can tell you you had better put the target way back there. The GP100 is scary accurate, especially with the 6" barrel. I was shooting sub 1" groups at 7 yards with it the first time out. It is capable of putting the rounds practically through the same hole. The weight of the 6" barrel, especially the fully shrouded one makes shooting even hot .357 mag rounds a breeze. You do get a nice loud bang but it doesn't really jump that much.

One thing I've never though of it slapping a scope on it. Is that pretty easy? I have to admit I haven't shot my GP100 in a while. Since I don't get to go to the range that often, I spend most of my time on my Glock 26 which is my concealed carry gun. I've also fallen in love my my recently purchased Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special.

Good choice. If you take care of it ,and hold onto it, you'll have to ensure that it's covered in your will because it will still be going strong after you die.:)

Gp

The yellow sight is actaully from a pack of different colored front sights that Ruger sells for the redhawk. They fit the GP-100 but are a little bit taller so you may or may not be able to adjust your rear sight enough to sight in correctly. If not the plastic is soft and can be shaved down a bit to work. You should be able to get an original black metal or black metal with red insert sight right from ruger Made for the Gp-100.

Oh my G!!

I didn't even see that front sight when looking at the picture of the pistol... good looking Iron over all but that sure is one ugly front sight. I would replace that baby right away... what is that? Something from Sesame Street... Big Bird Pistol?

Nice choice - good pistol.

And by the way...
bought my 1st wheel gun - thanks to you guys!
You're welcome.

But yeah, what is with that front sight? Time to go shopping again, looks like. ;)

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement!

That front sight may be ugly but I sure don't have any problems seeing it on the range! :p

I am going to our local once a month gun show next month and a new sight is on the top of the list.

Anyone have any suggestions on what kind to get? Or should I just go with the good ole' steel black with the red dot?

Thanks!
