yup thats right, today I shot a S&W 500 and the S&W 460 (both with the 8 3/8" barrel) :D
These are my cousins guns and we went shooting today, I also had my .454 Casull along to feel the differences. My .454 for me doesnt bother me a bit. Now with the 500 I had a similar experience as I had the first time I shot my .454. I was nervous before pulling the trigger but after I shot it was like...wheres all the recoil? It was nothing like everyone tells you it is. The ammo I shot was both the 350gr and 440gr factory bullets too.

The 460 is sure a powerhouse of a gun. With each shot there was a nice flame from the barrel...it looked sweet. I cant remember the weight exactly but again the recoil wasnt bad. Pretty much if you can handle a .454 Casull these two guns should be no trouble.

After shooting these I shot my .454 Casull and wondered what happened to it ... lol ... it didnt feel nearly as powerful as it once had :D I do know two more guns that are going to be added to the collection soon though.

I always liked the 454 (though I don't own one yet). :D

I figured I should buy a 460 so I could shoot 45LC, 454, as well as the more powerful 460's when I felt like it. :D Doesn't hurt that the 460XVR (IMHO) looks better than the Raging Bull or the Super Redhawk, either. ;) :D

Actually, the weight is closer to 72 oz.

I had a chance to shoot both the .460 and .500 a few weeks ago. I have to agree about the recoil. It was less than half what I expected. The place I shot them at had a special going on the .460. For $20, they would give you 30 minutes on their indoor range (like it really took more than 5 minutes), 5 rounds of 45 LC, 5 rounds of 454 Casull, and 5 rounds of .460 Mag. Couldn't pass on a deal like that!

I gave the gun back and told the salesman that I wanted to try the .500 Mag next. As he handed the gun to me, he smiled and said, "So, you're one of those guys." I replied, "Yes, sir, I am!"

Now, I'm addicted to big bore wheel guns.

theres a range near me that rents the S&W 500 for 30 bucks, and they only give you 5 rounds. what a let down.
i'll probably go rent it anyway. :D
