...I picked up a shotgun. I asked about the Maverick a few weeks ago, and recently sold my streetbike. So I decided it was time. Went to wally world and they had one there. Got the Maverick, 100 rounds of ammo, ammo for the .22 and a case of clays for $209 out the door. Not to shabby. Only fired it a few times today at some full soda cans to try it out, and I definitely regret not getting a shotgun earlier. I was like any other guy and decided not to read the manual.. I couldnt for the life of my figure out why it was only holding two shells till I opened up the manual, and found out theres a dowl in there for migratory bird regulation, heh.

Anyone know where I can find extended magazines for this, and possibly a shorter barrel? How are the shorter barrels (18-20") for clays?

never had good luck shooting clays with a 18" cylinder bore much farther then 20 feet but that could just be me.I havent tried any chokes on a 18 or 20 so that might help.
 
Perhaps I'll keep it as is then. The tactical look is cool and all, and I prefer the ergos, but I have a feeling I'll be doing more clay shooting then house clearing :p

Mossberg magazines are, for the most part, "What you get when you buy it is what you get to keep" since they are not extendable due to that magazine mounting lug being in the way. You could do some "mods" but it's not easy like other brands -- LIKE REMINGTON -- that accept mag-tube extenders without all that work.

Consequently, if you wanted more magazine-capacity you should have gotten the "Persuader" version with the already "extended" magazine.

As for what other barrels you can get, I don't know.

Yes, with no choke, it's a VERY short-range hunting gun only.

I've had a really good time busting clays with an 14" ghost ring sighted 870. It didn't hurt that the gov't was paying for the ammo, clays, guns, etc. If you are going to get a short barrel for home defense, I think it is really good practice to use it on small, fast moving targets, plus it is about as much fun as you can have with a short barrel.

I certainly hope so because if not youre in too rough a neighbourhood or need to get to the range more often. You can buy a shorter barrel but not a tube extension. I think that if you cant get a bad guy out of your house with 5+1 you should just give him the keys and move out.
