Welding

I have, and I'm still here, but I would say that doing that kind of work with a revolver would be far more dangerous than with a semi auto.

I know a welder that carries a Judge in his pocket each and every day. I have never known him to be without it. He's been doing this several years. Based on the fact that he is still alive and has never had the gun go off, it must be fairly safe.

Then again maybe he's just lucky.

I have a CHL and I seldom carry a pistol on my person. I usually leave it in the truck. I think that if I had a better holster I might be inclined to carry it more. I live in Texas, where it's wise to assume most everyone is carrying. Some legally and most illegally.

Normally mine is concealed. I have done some welding, cutting and grinding while carrying. Not really a concern to me. I don't like flying junk to get into my pistols so concealing them also is to keep the junk for getting in there in the first place.

It's probally a safer than having a cigarette lighter in your pocket. Alot of welders have cigarette lighters in there pocket. Alot stupid welders also. Very seldom do you here of them getting there legs blown off. It also depends on what you call welding. Theres overhead structural with heavy innershield wire, and theres playing around in your garage on saturday with home depots latest wire feed. I was a welding contractor for 8 years and taught it at a trade school for 14. The bullet is much more protected than the cig lighter. But I'd say theres still the possiblity. I don't think I'd weld with a gun in my pants. Not unless I was worried about having to shoot something on the jobsite.

If open carried I'd be more concerned with grinding or cutting wheel residue in my gun. If you are setting your pockets or waist on fire you're doing it wrong.

At work mine is in my tool box. At home I remove my gun before grinding and welding. Not due to fire hazard but abrasive dust associated with grinding and spatter / airborn flux from welding.

Like the bride and groom both said: I do.

I probably wouldn't if I had to do some underwater welding, . . . but beyond that, . . . yeppers, . . . I do.

May God bless,
Dwight

no ccw so no., most people dont mess around with bright lights or melting metal and flying slag. besides wearing a welding helmet you dont have the best field of vision anyway and welding is usually loud, someone could easily sneak up on you while welding if they wanted to.

Yep I do, revolver in appendix position. Although as others have stated I always have my shirt over the gun to keep metal grindings and such off of it.

I also smoke cigarettes while open carrying, because I like to live on the edge. :P

People that sneak up on welders soon learn that the welder always has a big hammer close at hand. Maybe a spare one to throw too. I don't carry at work, company policy. it's in the car though.
