OK. Strange idea. A friend likes pink. She was wondering (not me) if a polymer frame pistol can be painted pink. Krylon Fusion is formulated to bond with "plastics" I told her it would work for lawn furniture. I have seen plastic items painted with it. Very glossy! I don't think it would be durable as a finish. Any ideas? I know there are OD green and black/grey colours. Is there a manufacturer who makes pink polymer frames?
 
You can get the STI Modular plastic butt section in red, purple, blue, green, gray, or black. Sorry, not pink. I have seen pictures of raceguns in all sorts of color schemes, I guess they think if it is painted brightly the antis won't think they are bad guns, but I doubt it is done with Krylon.
 
You should be able to paint it but certainly it would wear off easily on the grip. Something like a 1911 you could make grips out of solid pink plastic. If you have an aluminum gun you could anodize it in color !The anodize is an oxide layer which is then treated with a wax which can be dyed pink. Aluminum revolvers were made with colors [ can't remember the brand] blue ,red ,gold . BTW H&K is making there guns in different colored plastic -back,gray, OD. The Steyr AUG was made in different colors too, black, tan.
 
Wonder if powder coating would work. Actually would like to know for myself.
Pink is a lovely color, don't be ashamed. Just rember, clutch bag with 9mm and pearls dont go with a 1911(just havin fun, besides pearls go with everything!)

Seriously, this is something I've also wondered about. But from the comments I've heard from some others about the lack of durability of the "bright blue" anodizing on Taurus Ti frames, I wonder if it's really worth it on a carry gun or one that will be fired a lot.
 
I used the krylon fusion on my 180b and it seems to hold up alright. try looking up bul-transmark, and then get an OKO parrot red dot for it, you can't go wrong..:).
 
EAA Witness polymer pistols were available with pink frames, as were some Keltecs. No idea if they are still available.

One could also equip a firearm with wood grips refinished with pink stain.


For Krylon: We painted the center section of our kitchen cabinet handles with cream colored Krylon and they are holding up very well. But we don't hang onto those handles as much as a gun would be handled. The problem would be what to do when the Krylon starts to flake: How do you strip and RE-finish plastic?


Someone mentioned powder coating. This is probably the best option, when applied to a rigid alloy or steel frame. Very tough finish, and the slide could be done as well. Baby Eagles used to be sold with an off-white powder coat finish that was very tough. Powder coating can be done with a small home kit.
 
How could the gubernment even consider banning a pink gun when there are so many evil black ones out there to contend with. I'm going home to paint my cetme right now.
 
One thing would be for sure,I bet there wouldn't be any arguments over who got to shoot it on ramge day. :eek:
 
Powder coating would probably be your best bet. I think looking into paintball gun customization might offer the most leads since they like custome paint jobs.


On a side note, I figured out a while ago that a hard chromed 1911 with pearl grips that have a marbled white and pink pattern with a heart theme anywhere we could fit it (hammer shape, holes cut into trigger, front end of the gun, etc) would look really really nice.
 
My friend is talking with some automotive platers. They can do what she wants. I am shocked at the sticker price! One coating is $320.00. WOW! I think I will stick with basic black.
 
Back before they went bankrupt, the old Springfield Armory was offering colored coatings for firearms.

American Handgunner did a big color spread on the colors available, and there were some doozies.
One picture was of a basket of apples.
If you looked close, there was an apple red 1911 in there.

Another 1911 was done in red, blue, and gold.
Another was red, white, and blue.

The article said one customer had his home defense AK-47 done in shocking pink.
He figured no lawyer would attempt to show it to a jury and claim it was an evil assault weapon.

As I recall, there are still companies that offer similar coatings for guns, and you can have about any color you want.

Many years ago, the old High Standard sold the Sentinel .22LR revolver in pink, gold, and blue/green for women.
 
I think that I'm going to start dreaming about lime green Desert Eagles and something from Freedom Arms in fuscia (y'all are jealous that I know AND can spell that word! Admit it).

What fun blasters to take to a cop range! :D
