weird ar-15 jam

i had a round jammed point forward ABOVE the bolt where the point was pointing downward at about 5 degrees below the 180 mark, and the top of the bolt was against the midsection of the round i couldn't disassemble the gun, and eventually had to pry the cartrige loose using two screwdrivers, wone dangerously close to the primer. I have sunk a pirates fortune into this gun and am justifiably upset. has anyone ever seen this? This is supposed to be my SHTF rifle but if this happened to me while i was being shot at, i'de be history(provided i didn't have enough
Pistol ammo. Is this a magazine problem or a gun problem? the gun is a bushmaster shorty ak with an a-1 reciever trimmed out like a thanksgiving turkey. and i'm just about ready to take it out back and put a bullet in it's head er.. upper.

bullfrog99,

I am 99.99% sure that you got a magazine problem. I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago in my Bushy 16 inch A3. I was using a mixture of Thermold, Orlite and USA Brand magazines. Everyting was fine until I used the USA mag's. I was not brave enough to wrench out the live round and instead took it to a smith. He checked the rifle over and could not find a thing wrong with it. He thought it was the magazine. It seems the mag allowed a round to be ejected when the bolt was in full recoil and it rode under the round and caused the jam. Since then I have stuck to Thermold's, Orlite's and I have bought some USGI's. I have not had the problem since. The USA mag's became range targets.

I've seen this type of jam twice in two different AR's. Both were using cheap aftermarket mags. Use GI mags or Thermolds and you'll be fine.

i'm not sure, they have no markings. they are steel, but the feedlips seem extra flimsy compared to my one bushmaster 10 rounder. I'm sure it's the magazine now too.
i was just a little thrown by the thing. thanks for your replies.

Bullfrog,
I just happen to have 20 extra mags for my Bushmaster and they are all USGI. What I think you should do to save any further un nessacary stress is just box it up and send me the gun ;) Problem solved.
Honestly, check the "FOR SALE stuff here as well as http://www.Assualtweb.net and http://www.AR15.com. There are a lot of good deals on the boards now.

Good luck and post a pic of this Thanksgiving Turkey of your's.Curious AR addicts want to know what someone else have that they don't, YET :)
