Weatherby Vanguard

Yesterday I bought a Weatherby Vanguard. Wal-Mart had them for $366. I have heard excellent things about Weatherbys but have never owned one. This one has the synbthetic stock and is chambered in good ol' 30-'06. Seems to be put together good and the istruction book actually provided instructions for lightening the trigger pull. Thats a first. I have usually had to research that. Anyways, have any of you had any experience with this rifle? I topped it with a 4.5-14X44 AO scope.

BMiracle, Yes, I have one in 7mm Rem Mag. It is a shooter, Had to spend some time working up a load it liked, but once I got there am able to shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds. On my rifle the trigger adjustment is a joke....The local gun smith and I worked on it for about an hour, and only could get it down to 5.25 lbs. which is too heavy as far as I am concerned. Have a replacement trigger on the way from Brownells, hopefully it will arrive to-day. It put a deer in the freezer last hunting season at 270 yds. What more could one ask?

Put a Timney (from Brownells) on my 30-06, it did wonders for that rifle. And it shoots also, 5 shots under 1 inch at 100yds, using Federal P3006D (165gr GameKing Load).

One caution, there are 2 Timney triggers out for the Vanguard, the orginal & one for the new "Wal-mart" Vanguard. Try & put an orginal in the new model & you'll have to most likely modify the trigger guard (I know because I did!) But modify or not, man does it feel good to have a great trigger.

I took it apart to adjust the trigger last night. I could only get it down to 4 1/2 pounds. Pretty pathetic. I also notived that when the stock was tightened down, the fore-end bent putting a lot of pressure on the barrel. I broke out my Dremel and some sanding drums and free loated the barrel. I will have to see what that does. I have never owned a rifle were free floating did not improve the accuracy. Tingiht I will start working up some loads using Nosler Ballistic tips and Hornady SST's. Maybe a trigger will have to be next.
