Weatherby Vanguard S2

I picked up my new Weatherby Vanguard S2 in .308 yesterday. I own several Savages in the Axis, 10, and 11 models and a Rem 700. I like nice wood stocks but anymore unless you want to pay $1000 or more for a hunting rifle you pretty much have to go with synthetic. I have to give credit where credit is due and this Weatherby has the best factory synthetic stock I have ever seen or used ever. It is very well made and solid. I also love the griptonite inlays in the forearm and grip area they just add a real positive hold on the rifle that feels good. I am really looking forward to getting out and seeing how it shoots but I got to save some more money and get a scope for it so it might be another week or two. Thanks everyone that gave me the advice of trying out a Weatherby Vanguard. I think it's going to be a keeper. I am looking at a Vortex Crossfire II in a 6-18x40 and a Redfield Revenge 6-18X40. Any thoughts on these scopes?

I love the S2 as well. Mine shot one ragged hole at 100 yds. I agree, the stock is awesome on these. For the money... caint be beet!

I am also really enjoying my S2 as is a friend who saw how my rifle shot and got one. Both (243 & 270WSM) shoot sub MOA 3 shot groups consistently with our handloads, and 3/4 MOA is not uncommon with them.

I don't have any experience with the Vortex Crossfire line. When I got my rifle I found Zeiss Conquests on sale for $399 and got one. My friend put a Nikon Monarch 3 with their Nikoplex reticle on his and is getting very good results with it.

I suppose you'll be selling off all those other Savages and keep the Weatherby. One can be spoiled by the ownership of just one Weatherby I think as my neighbor owns three Mark 5's Deluxe's and won't consider purchasing anything else {well maybe a Sako in a pinch} as I was told._:rolleyes:

Sure Shot I never said I didn't like my Savages I just said I like the stock on the Weatherby better than the ones on my Savages and Rem 700. As far as the Savages I have never had one that didn't shoot sub MOA from the factory. I could see myself letting go of the 700 though. Have not been very impressed with it and the stock really sucks. I like the older 700's in wood.

They are really nice rifles. I have three, a 30-06, .308 and a 7mm-08. I also have a Howa 1500, same action as a Weatherby Vanguard but with a different stock.
