Weatherby Vanguard questions

I have a few questions regarding my new toy...
I know nothing about this rifle and usually don't make purchases without doing my research but I couldn't pass up the great deal I was getting, especially while I was considering a bolt action.
Anyhow, here we go...

1. I have this in 30-06 but I'm not sure exactly what kind of Vanguard I have. I think it's supposed to be something like Alaskan? Anyone know for sure?

2. What type of scope mount would be best, 1 or 2 piece?

3. Is there any way to modify the rifle to take magazines instead of top-loading?

That's all the questions I have for now. I'm sure I'll have some more when I've fired a few rounds.

There was an article in Precision Shooting magazine once about converting a Vanguard (may have been a Howa-branded gun, same thing) in .308 to take m-14 mags. Cost about $3-400 bucks to do. You'd also have to rebarrel to .308 to do this--or maybe someone knows if it could be converted to take Remington or Savage mags?

I have this article around, but wouldn't know where to find it in the stack o' stuff. Maybe they have a searchable archive?

I've never heard of a Vanguard referred to as an 'Alaskan'...best, weegee
