Hey guys I have a weatherby vangaurd with the synthetic stock and as much as I like it id rather have a wood stock. My qeustion is where can I get one that wont cost me an arm and a leg? Also is this something I can do at home?

Replacement stock

The factory stock which came on your weatherby vanguard / howa 1500 rifle, would be best up-graded with a bell & carlson stock. Yes, they are not wood, but they are a whole lot better than wood in too many ways to list here.

However, begin your search by typing in on google "wooden stocks for howa 1500 rifle" and see what pops up.

Forget B&C. Get a real stock http://www.hightech-specialties.com/stocks.html I put one of these on my Vanguard. They are only a little more expensive, but do require you to do a little final fitting, glue on a recoil pad and paint. Unless you have 10 thumbs anyone can do it. You'll end up with a much higher quality stock with twice the strength and half the weight.

For a decent usable wood stock look up Boyds gunstocks and Richards microfit stocks they will sell you a wood stock starting at under $100. The Richards will need to be finished and the Boyds can be ordered ready to use or un-finished. Also watch ebay, gunbroker, etc. The Weatherby Vangaurd action is the same as a Howa 1500 or the old Smith&Wesson 1500.
