Weatherby Ultra Question (s)

Just found what I hope to be the perfect Central USA Hunting rifle. A Weatherby Ultra Light Weight in 30-06. Got a very good price on it & there is a rebate as well.

However this #1 profile barrel beings up some real questions:
1) Reality check: How many rounds can I expect to shoot at one setting before accuracy falls off due to heating?
2) Can a lightweight gun really stand up to a diet of heavy loads?
3) the trigger, I wish to lighten the pull a little, is that what the allen head screw infront of the trigger is for? The book skips over trigger adjustments completely.

I have put a few rounds through it already & recoil isn't a problem. That Fiberglass stock & recoil pad do a pretty fair job. In fact, so far my only complaint is that the stock exterior is not up to the usual Weatherby (of old) standards, especially the fitting around the floor plate area.

I would appreciate any input or help anyone has. Thanks, k

Since it's a hunting rifle, were I you, I wouldn't worry about more than a three-shot group. If the forearm is properly bedded, you might even get fairly tight five-shot groups...

Heavy loads won't hurt anything, unless you do long strings of fairly rapid fire. Not likely, right?

As far as the trigger, in my ignorance of the specifics (I put a Canjar on my 1970-vintage Weatherby), all I suggest is to take the stock off and play with it. Adjust things and see what happens. You should have some 0.020" of sear engagement, and a trigger pull of around three pounds (although I set mine at two).

Hope this helps, Art
