Weatherby SA-08 or Browing Silver hunter?

My father is retiring, and the guys are all getting together to get him another shotgun. I suggested the Benelli Centuri, but they've got their hearts set on the two models listed in the title of the thread (due to immediate availability)

I have no experiece with either. Do any of you guys have any input? Druthers? etc...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dave

FWIW, Field & Stream voted the Weatherby SA-08 as the best shotgun of the year last year. Don't know if they compared it to the Browning. Both of the shotguns are imported, not made in the USA, and both are self-adjusting gas system guns. Go handle both and decide.

Browning Silver Hunter

I can't say about the Wheatherby, but I have been very happy with the Browning Silver Hunter. I only had one problem and it was just an oversight in cleaning. Have shot couple thousand rounds and it is very smooth, balanced and nice looking! I

I don't have any experience with either gun ( and not to nit-pick but I don't know of a Benelli Centuri model either ...)...

If I had to pick one - of your choices - I would go with the Browning. I think the Weatherby is made in Turkey - and I don't see a lot of quality in their guns.

But honestly, I know its not a gift to open for him - but I like OneOunce's idea of a Gift Certificate too .....then he can put the money toward a gun he really likes, and more importantly one that really fits him. ( picking a gun for someone else, is kind of like buying boots for someone else - hard to do ...). But its nice of you - and his friends - to recognize and do something special for his retirement.

Hey guys I appreciate you input and suggestions. And I had the centuri wrong too. (I'm not sure which benelli model I was talking about. LOL)

The gift cert is a good idea, but the guys want something that they can actually give to him.

I personally favor the Browning, and think I'll recommend it.

Thanks again!
