Weatherby Mark V Japan question

I am attempting to help a friend identify a rifle and assign a possible value to the gun. The only things we know for sure is that it is a .300 Weatherby mag made in Japan. What I am not sure of is exactly which variation of the Mark V is it, and if the stock is original.

The metal appears brand new and it's in a gray fiber stock with a textured feel. It resembles the current production Fibermark, minus the Japanese origin. So far all of the Japanese guns i've seen are on a nicer wood stock.

Does anyone know if there is a chance the fiberstock is original or which flavor Mark V it may be?

It's an actual Mark V, not the vanguard. Thanks for the link. Serial number starts with H which aligns with the Japanese marking on the gun.

No markings that I could find. I wanted to take the action out of the stock to check the channel but ran out of time. Hopefully I will do this next time I see him.

The stock reminds of some HS Precision stocks that I have seen on 700's.

It a Vanguard?

The difference between Weatherby and Vanguard is the chamber, It not a Vanguard if the rifle has a Weatherby chamber. I called Weatherby about a rifle I owned and, they made it very clear I did not own a Weatherby, I owned a non-Weatherby, They informed me the 300 Winchester Mag. chamber was not a Weatherby chamber.

If they changed the non-Weatherby to a Weatheby they did not inform me.

Correction: I went through some reports from GUN TEST, they tested the expensive and less expensive Weatherby rifles. They listed chambers for the Vanguard, the Vaneguard is chambered with 2 Weatherby chambers.

Pretty easy to distinguish between a MKV and a Vanguard. The MKV bolt has a 54 degree lift with 9 locking lugs and is a much stronger action than the Vanguard with a 2 lug bolt.

Or the price, there could be $1,000 difference. Gun Test said for the difference in price they would chose the Vanguard every time.
