wear on P229 barrel - normal?

Hi folks,
As I was cleaning my P229 last night, I noticed that the barrel is wearing where the slide rubs against it during cycling. This wear is roughened up about 25% of the circumference of the barrel (where the contact is occurring on the top of the barrel) for a good inch or more.

Is this type of wear normal or have I not been reassembling the weapon correctly!? I figured I was doing it right since it still worked perfectly, but I didn't expect this type of wear to occur. Should I be worried?

Thanks

Cullen,

I seem to be answering a lot of your questions. Funny how things repeat, these are all the same questions I had when I started out.

The barrel wear you describe is normal. The slide and barrel contact during firing. At one point the slide contacts the top and at another the bottom. Th ehalf moon marks will increase with use. For more info. make sure to check out www.sigforum.com Some other great sites are:
