Wear-n-Tear???

After shooting skeet one night I came home and started cleaning as always. I went to put the barrel back on (870) I noticed where the fore-end attaches to the part that goes into the reciever (im new to firearms, sorry if it doesnt make perfect sense) there is a piece of plastic that looks like on both sides of the rails is starting the get crushed some how and is breaking pieces off slowly. Ill try and upload some pictures to photobucket so you can see for your self. Im not sure if I explained correctly. Any input is appreciated ;)

Without pics, no one can really address this issue head on... But I will say that a pump gun need the operator to learn to have a neutral grip on the forestock/ action neither torqued left nor right for the longest life of all parts. A severe torque will even wear the mag tube in time.
We have a ton of 870 guys that may knowe 'zackly what you speak of...

First picture is just the location and the second is what im looking at up close..Its at the beginning of the forend without the barrel looking from the top

It looks like there's some damage to the forearm material just in front of the action bars. This may self correct.

Synthetic forearm? Hard to tell from the pics.
