ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Someone broke into an Orange County SWAT team member's SUV and stole a machine gun with a silencer, an assault rifle, and a handgun.

The stolen guns are serious, military-grade weapons. A deputy's mistake put the same highly-powerful gun that SWAT team members use to storm a house full of criminals on the streets of Orange County.

The three weapons, a UMP-45 fully-automatic machine gun with a noise depression device, an H&K G3 assault rifle and a Glock 21 semi automatic handgun, were an easy steal once the thieves pried open the deputy's unmarked SUV.

Now they get assault rifles AND machine guns WITH SILENCERS!? What the hell? Sounds kinda like their preparing to wage war.

"...will face some discipline...(sic)....

....here in Norfolk, if you lose a weapon as a result of your negligence, it's instant termination...no fuss...no muss...same should apply here. The other issue I have here is the paltry $2500.00 reward offered for recovery...those weapons will easily fetch over $25000.00 on the streets of ____________(pick any large urban center). I have to wonder about the maturity of this "SWAT" team member.

It's a sub-machine gun. It's not like he had "ma deuce" in the back of an SUV. The suppressor is appropriate, shooting in indoor environments is very bad for one's hearing; why should anyone be subjected to it (I highly advocate that suppressors be terminated from the NFA and be made readily available).

Same thing happened around here a couple months ago. They got a radio, M16, Glock22, laptop and vest. All but the laptop turned up in less than 10 days...

It is a little absurd that civilians can't have these things but yo-yos like this guy just leave them in their trucks. Can you imagine what happened if this was a civilian with class III? Keith Olbermann would already have a special on gun violence.

A civilian did have a class III weapon here, its just this civilian happens to wear a badge. Thats why its no big deal. No Keith Olbermann special on gun violence.

I see what you are saying. I am simply pointing out that if this had been a privately owned NFA weapon, this would have caused an uproar. Is this stolen UMP less deadly because it was stolen from a cop? That is why a lot of folks don't understand why this guy can have one but citizens can't.

Clearly the OC Swat Team are the only ones professional enough to store class 3 weapons in their vehicles.

Genius: "Kids, I am the only person in this room professional enough to handle this submachinegun"

BUDDABUDDABUDDABDDABDA BANG!!!!

Genius: "Uhhh, sorry kids. That is why you have to be safe. Uhh, who wants to see the grenade launcher?"

Kids: "AIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE put it away, put it away!"
