Weak Side shooting

Im sure most of you have read about our little "incident" here in Burkesville.

Fred was right-handed, but he was found with his .357 in his left hand, his right arm having been injured during Vaughns blind fire attack.
Fred of course managed to whack the member of our local goblin clan, saving his family, and according to conseus of the LEOs involved, used his weak hand to do it.
This proves the value of learning to efficently work your weapon with either hand.
Now, how many of you can actually fire effectivly with your weak hand?
I for one don't feel confident that I could.
...something for me to work on.

My best friend and I were talking about that last weekend, as a matter of fact. I know I couldn't now. I plan on getting a bunch of bulk ammo and taking my Glock 22 out and shooting until I can shoot leftie even half as good as rightie.

Practice with both hands and both eyes, four combinations. Can't plan your problems but you can prepare for a lot of em.

Anyone remember the scene in The Quick and the Dead where Gene Hachman tells the other gunfighter he really is just as good with one hand as the other?

Well I really am. ;) Seriously, I am completely ambidextrious. I write primarily left handed but can and some times do write right handed as well.

As a police officer I made it a point to qualify with both hands and had all my duty gear for either side.

I'm left handed. When I shoot "WRONG HANDED" I place the middle of the second knuckle on the trigger. It seems to give me more stability.

Two police officers were lost within the last three years. Both were initially disabled in the strong hand and didn't know how to use their weak hand to fight back.

I am not as completely ambidextrous as gunslinger but I am pretty close. I should have been a lefty but my mother would not allow me to be. The only thing I can't do as well with my left hand is write.

I practice shooting with both hands. I use two hand a single hand holds. I am not quite as good left handed as right but pretty close.

The problem is my eyes. My left eye is much more dominant then my left eye. Normally when I shoot a handgun I hold right handed and aim with my left eye and I shoot with both eyes open. When I aim with my right eye I absolutely have to shut my left eye or I cannot see the sights.

I shoot all long guns left handed and have since I was a kid. I think this is why I shoot so well with my "off" hand.

Fun Fact: I lost my right eye and had to relearn longarms left handed, however I still fire my handguns right handed. Talk about your setbacks...

:) It is fun-from another cyclops. I actually had it a little easier since I was born blind in the right eye=didn't have to relearn everything, and have no idea what depth perception is all about. I honestly feel that if anything, it has helped my ability. On topic, I am not ambi, but shoot a handgun more accurately weak handed (left) in slow fire than I do strong handed. Rapid fire is a whole different ballgame though.

Broke right arm as kid-so at young age learned to write left handed-am right handed but can DRAW (on paper) better with left hand. Had bad accident and severed all tendons in right hand and punctured main artery-went back to left hand.
Shoot cross-eye dominant. What does all this mean??? I shoot equally as well left-or right, well okay follow up shots are slower with the left.

Funny this should come up just now. Later today I'll be competing in a local cowboy league in which the course of fire includes one stage where the shooter engages targets with a single action revolver in each hand.

It's been eye-opening to realize just how much difference there is between one-hand strong-side shooting and one-hand weak-side shooting, even for the best shooters. And it's made me resolve to practice more with my weak hand only.

Who says you can't learn anything from cowboy matches?

I shot an IDPA classifier a couple of weeks ago and was required to shoot with strong hand only and weakhand only. It actually is fun trying to concentrate and execute proper trigger control with your weak hand, reminds me of starting all over as a beginner!! One hand shooting really does require the DA pull on a DA/SA auto to be smooth.

I practice one handed shooting once a week.I still can't shoot as well with my left hand but I get some improvement if I cant the gun inwards--seems to stop the wobble.
And BTW RAE--I've never been able to work out how to do that quote thing you did--you know, the black letters in the box---if you can be bothered I'd appreciate your telling me how it's done.

I practice both left and right single and two handed. Not quite as good left handed(slower) but still hit quite well.Question what will you do if you have blood running down your face into one eye?Practice shooting right and left handed useing the oppisite eye to shoot. Many combo's there but adds to practice fun.

Gunslinger, you should get a bonus since your department gets two hired hands for the price of one. ;)
