I was reading an article the other day about deaths in yosemite from the natural hazzards there. Many people a year die because of drownings or falls or other misfortune. Many of these deaths are children. Now if we applied the gun control argument to every aspect of our lives the president would be demanding that we close these hazzardous places because they kill far too many children. Even if it only saves 1 child....... and therefore these places should be completely off limits to children and adults should only be allowed to visit after they have been cleared by a doctor for being physically fit enough for the hike and not suicidal in any way, have a permit to camp, have taken a swim test, etc, etc..

It seems that the politicians wanting more gun control fail to put the number of fatalities due to gun ownership into perspective.

Why, of course they don't, as if they did, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I get a kick out of the 'scientific' polls they use, which always use 'selected' individuals to respond to them, and mainly university students. If they did a nationwide poll, that was done by a truly un-biased organization, they would see the truth, and have to back down. However, the anti-gunners have the media in their pocket, and have them carry their lies as truth, and the majority eat it up.
 
I think the number of gun deaths per year was only about one third the number of automobile deaths per year. We should suggest common-sense car-control laws, or outright banning of automobiles.

This is preaching to the choir. Instead of posting here, we should be out there discussing this with any and every one we see.
Those who need to be converted, and can be converted.

My Mother was a seasonal administrator at Yosemite and we lived in the Valley for several summers when I was a kid. I survived. And I even helped pushed the "Firefall" off the top of the cliff at Glacier Point several times.

In fact very few deaths are children. Most are stupid young adults doing things like standing on the edge of the water falls for photos. I think one idiot fell off the top of Half Dome trying to look down the front. A few are well trained rock climbers with bad luck. I mean there are like 3 or 4 people each year who fall off Yosemite Falls alone.

You can't stop stupid. Whether it's nature, guns, cars, whatever.

PS - OMG - I just read the article. LOL It seems someone else fell off the front of Half Dome last summer. You just don't go out to the edge. The wind blows 1,000 feet up the face and will suck you right off, even from a few feet back.

And a lady fell off the cables. The cable is in fact dangerous. I've climbed half dome several times and after the first time we used rock climbing harnesses to clip onto the cable during the first 1/2 of the climb so if we fell or slipped we only went about 20 feet. It's nearly vertical for a couple of hundred feet and you have people passing each other hand over hand. I'm surprised more people don't fall off.

But to relate this to guns, there are millions of people who enjoy Yosemite every year without getting hurt. And hundreds of thousands or a couple of million people have climbed Half Dome without falling off. Just like most people handle guns all their lives without a mishap.

Some of the "Gun Violence" numbers and "research" will include 18-24 year old people to pad the number with gang related murders.
