30 - 40 mm bottle neck case
6mm - 8mm cal Bullet
2200-2600fps muzzle velocity
Tuned to an 8-12" barrel rifle

Seems to me that both the .30 Russian short (7.62x39) and the 8mm Kurz (7,92x33mm) fit within your parameters.

Also the .221 Fireball case, necked up to 6mm-8mm would also.

And FWIW, most of us consider 8-12" to be a pistol barrel. ;)

And to think, I'd always thought the gap was a .30+ cal rimfire round. Not that there weren't any and I even think a few companies occassionaly have ammo for them. It just seems like if a large comany got behind a single large rimfire it might become popular.

There are so many center-fire wildcats out there.

Everytime I think I have a decent idea, for a round there's already a dozen.

I know the feeling. After a lot of looking and measuring I decided that a 338 winchester magnum necked up to take a 375 bullet would be very close to the 375 H&H in power and do it in a standard length action.

I told my gunsmith friend about my brain child and he said "hold on a minute". He went to his gun safe and came back with a custom rifle just so chambered. That was sure a let down.

A few years ago he retired for health reasons and had a sale of his guns. I forgot about that rifle or I would have made a real effort to buy it. I am sure the round has a name but I have never heard what it is.

that would be a pretty good sized weapon wouldn't it?

Hmmmm....you might be on to something here.

M79 grenade launcher is 40mm but not bottleneck...and single shot only...

A ten round magazine of those 40mm rounds might be a little unwieldly but hey, we had a real mass media report of a guy that had 8,300 rounds in just three magazines (2700+ per magazine) so I guess we can't rule it out.
