Watching The Crazies

I'm watching The Crazies (the 2010 remake), which I'm a fan of.

I never really paid much attention to the weapons used...for some reason, tonight I did.

Looks like the sheriff uses a Glock 30 as his primary sidearm! Don't get me wrong, I love my Glock 30, and I carry it every day...as a CCW or BUG. Just seems odd they'd have him using a subbie as a primary duty weapon.

Aside from some of the usual Hollywood firearm goofs, anyone else have any fun examples of bizarre weapon choices? (I.e. using a rifle when a handgun would be more logical, the guy in Resident Evil: Apocalypes concealing two gold-plated Desert Eagles, etc...)

Sam fisher is CC'ing a MK23 with a suppressor, LAM and fictional 18-round mag at the beginning of Splinter Cell Conviction.

Not to mention anytime someone is carrying a Desert Eagle, I once even saw a discussion on THR where some was showing off a IWB holster he made for one.

I'll actually stand corrected on my first statement.

Was watching a few of hickok45's videos this morning, and realized that in his Glock 30 video, he mentions carrying it as a duty sidearm while a Deputy in his town due to it being (just about) the same size as the G19 and G23.

So I guess it IS used as a Duty sidearm on occasion...

One of my favorites was Arnold concealing a Beretta 92 in an ankle holster in Kindergarten Cop.

Only reason I watched it was it was filmed at the school I went to Kindergarten in 26 years ago. :P

I carry a Glock 23 for my duty weapon, which is approximately the same size as the 30 isn't it? I actually pushed for the 30 when our agency decided to go to the 23, but alas, I was shot down (pun alert).

No, the 23 is the compact (same size as the 19), whereas the 30 is the subcompact (same size as the 26). Besides, the 23 is .40 and the 30 is .45 ACP. So different size and caliber.

Here's a good link to see and compare the different models/sizes of Glocks, since their numbering system makes no sense unless you care about when a gun came out chronologically.

Yeah, after I posted, I realized the 30 is closer in size to say a 19 than a 26, even though Glock calls it a subcompact.

I've compared my 30 to my buddy's 23...the difference in size (aside from width) is really negligible. Frame size, yeah, but if you use the mags the 30 comes with (with the extension) it equals out to about the same.

Still just seemed odd to me, considering it IS considered a subcompact, but I guess realistically, with so little difference in size from the 19/23, which are marketed as being suitable carry weapons...
