Concealed Weapons? They're not just for the grandkids anymore!

My gun saved me
I agree with Grover E. Smith's April 12 letter, "More guns," when he says
that any law-abiding citizen who carries a weapon for self-defense will be a strong deterrent to one-on-one crime. I can vouch that we are a deterrent to three-against-one crime, as well.
I'm 70 years old. I got my Texas concealed handgun license in 1996. After I got it, I found it necessary to be in a high-crime area of Dallas. Three armed young men saw me and decided that I would make an easy victim.
They were wrong. They approached me with looks of malevolent glee on their faces. When they suddenly saw my drawn weapon, their expressions instantly changed to looks of abject fear and horror. They fled instantly in different directions like frightened rats. My goodness! They just wanted to have fun! They didn't want to die! I had my cellular phone with me. What do you suppose would have
happened if I had pointed my telephone at them and threatened to notify the authorities, if they didn't leave me alone?
If you really want to cut down on violent crime, arm more potential victims. Calling 911 isn't going to prevent many murders, just report that they have already happened.
