Will be buying one of the above rifles would appreciate input as to which would be the better buy ? Going for a SHTF rifle.

Those are completely different rifles, if you're talking about a Saiga shotgun. If you mean a Saiga built AK or conversion, I would vote for the Saiga.

Thanks guy's . I like the pistol grip on the 10 but the saiga has a good look also. Havent shot either thats why I was wondering if there is much difference in the rifle's . Leaning toward 7.62x39 less expensive and plentiful. ammo.

Don't wait too long to decide, Izhmash is no longer making the Saiga. Prices will only go up.

Does anyone have more information about this? I have only found past rumors of the same type that were unfounded. Can it be a re-branding of sorts, by way of a name change for example, in order to inflate value, etc.?

I have one of each. My Saiga is a Krebs AK103K conversion, my WASR 10, just an early SAR1 look alike. Price wise, they are opposite ends of the spectrum, function and shooting wise, they shoot and work pretty much the same.

If you want something spiffy, the converted Saigas (the professionally done guns, not the home made guns) are pretty nice. If your just looking for a shooter, the WASR's will do the same thing as the higher priced guns, and youll get to accessorize and shoot it more with the money you save.

You can get an AK for $400, but that doesnt mean you should. Id get one worth $500. There are some milled ones out there for $600, but thats more than Id want to spend on an AK.

WASR 10's are fun, Cheap, and cheap to shoot. I recommend if u want to have fun at a low price. If you want to Shoot that same round but have a nicer rifle I would go with the Saiga.

Get the WASR 10!
The mag on the Saiga is a special mag just for the Saiga & cost a lot of $$$
The WASR 10 takes any AK47 double stack mag 5rd to 60rd or drum 75rd to 100rd.;)

More internet BS about the importation of shotguns...

I own both WASR and Saiga and would say buy the Saiga, spend a little more restoring it with the pistol grip configuration and you can do the gasblock and frontsight later if you think you even need to. The only reason to avoid any home-done reconfiguration is if they absolutely screwed it up and marked up the receiver with tooling marks or put the sight and gas blocks on crooked.
In my experience the one's that big companies coverted aren't anything I couldn't do myself. You don't HAVE to reconfigure it either if you don't want to, just mind 922r with the magazines.

The 2 rifles are about the same price, the Russian you do a little work to but end up with a somewhat superior rifle to the WASR in the end. If you had them side by side you'll see the Saiga is a little tighter.

You want a SHTF rifle which means absolutely nothing in regards to having a milled or stamped version. If this was an investment I'd say look for a Polytechnologies or get a VEPR. When your idea of SHTF doesn't happen, you'll be happy you have somewhat of an investment still in a real Russian rifle as opposed to the slightly inferior Romanian made with factory throw-out parts.

The Saiga should accept any surplus steel magazines and have a standard magwell. A 5,45x39 that I have wouldn't fit a couple out-of-spec Bulgarian polymer mags but for the most part you'll be fine. You may have to file the catch or the lips on *some* but do not use Tapco magazines!

No he is saying that Russia is thinking about shutting down the Russian gun industry.
Or may have shut it down by now.

It's a pretty grievous overstatement to suggest they're "shutting down the Russian gun industry" or even considering doing that. It would be like the USA saying "we're shutting down the American car industry" it just isn't going to happen. Just because some blog takes some stuff out of context doesn't serve as proof of much of anything.

Getting back on track, My vote goes to the Saiga. 20" barrel if you can. I can put rounds touching each other at 100 yards if I really try with my brother's saiga
