I have seen an AK model WASR-10 available. Are these any good? The price seems right. Does anyone know much about these? Thanks in advance

Do you mean MISR-10?

I have a MISR-10, a Maadi (Egyptian) semiauto AK clone. Here's the story.

I go to my local dealer, and tell him I want a Romanian AK, in 7.62x39. Two weeks later, there it is, but it's not romanian, it's egyptian. They were out of Romanians, so rather than break the deal, he got me a different brand, but didn't complete the sale until I was satisfied and had inspected it.

The manual is barely comprehensible.

It came with a 10 round magazine that will NOT fit into the mag well. (My dealer gave me a free 30 rounder)

You can feel the recoil of each shot in the trigger, as the hammer locks back into position. It can make your finger numb if you're not used to it.

It didn't come with a sight adjustment tool.

The sling setup is for righties only, so I took the sling mount off the left side of the stock.

It feels rough and loose, like you'd expect from a low-cost AK clone. (As opposed to the superior Russian ones or the American made models).

However, it is hands down the most reliable autoloading rifle I've ever used. It's a ball to shoot. New Bulgarian 30 round magazines can be had from http://www.progressivearms.com for seven dollars each.

I like mine and won't be parting with it soon. :)

The WASR-10 began life as a single-stack magazine AK. If I recall correctly it is actually a Romak that has the magazine well milled out to accept double stack magazines.

Of the folks that own one, including myself, the consensus is that they are a decent variant of the AK-47. They seem to be well made and shoot just as well as any other AK around. The seem to fit together well and have a nice parkerized finish on them. Another plus is that all the WASR's I've seen have the receiver mounted scope rail. That's especially good if you want to mount some sort of optic, like the Kobra red dot sight ( http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/kobra1.html ).

The biggest problem with the WASR's is that some magazines don't fit very well, but that can be taken care of with some careful filing of the magazine or magazine well.
Additionally the Romanian AK's do tend to have problem's with trigger slap. A detailed description and solution to the problem was discussed here: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=65271

A great source of information on all AK's is: http://www.ak-47.net .

Usually WASR's run anywhere from $250 to $300. Some come with 1-10 round magazine and 1-30 rd. and then others have 3 or more 30 rd. mags.

Overall it is a decent rifle and a great value (if the price is right). If you don't mind having an AK that has been "un-neutered", I think you will be happy.
