WASR 10/63 Examination

Going to be looking at a WASR 10/63 soon. What should I look for? Based on my research, here is what I know about:

Front Sight Block Cant
Gas Tube Cant
Magazine wobble (especially side to side)
Tapco T2 Trigger (for no trigger slap)
Triangle with Arrow Factory Mark

What am I missing?

Also, I don't fully understand these things:

I thought these were rebuilt in the US with new American-made chrome-lined barrels, but I am told this one has a chrome-lined original barrel. Does this sound correct? My concern it is not chrome-lined and possibly shot out from years in the Romanian military.

I need help figuring out the compliance parts bit...How many US parts does it need to have to be legal? I was told it has these US parts: trigger group (3 parts?), gas piston, muzzle brake, and bolt carrier...so 6 total.

What replaces the "dimples" in the WASR mag well? Something welded into place? Anything I should check for here? How much side-to-side mag wobble is acceptable?

What is bolt "hang-up" or "catching" on the sear, and how bad can it be?

Again, what else should I look for?

Got some pics from the seller...I'll post in a minute...feel free to comment on what you see.

Defiantely watch for canted GB and FS but the 10/63s aren't bad from what I have seen and owned.

Magazine wobble will happen if the metal shims aren't welded into the sides of the magwell, you'll know what I mean if/when you see it... these are what replaces the dimples I guess, Century's fix for it. I can't tell from your pic if they're in there or not.

Tapco triggers aren't that bad to me but the bolt drag comes from the trigger hooks not exactly to spec - they make the hammer sit a hair too high when in the caught position so it makes the bolt drag on the hammer and will hang up if you charge it real slow but in normal, not retarded operation it's fine. Take it out if you want and put a Krebs in. I used a Tapco anyway in my Russian because it was cheap and I am used to the drag from my Romanian 10/63 anyway.

The Romanian barrels are Chromed from what I understand but the American ones won't be (?). The 10/63 most had Chrome-lined barrels unless someone swapped them out for some reason. The 75 isn't supposed to have them.

The 10/63 imports will have all the 922r parts unless someone put foreign ones on for whatever reason.

From the pics it looks just like all the others, it should be fine. The gastube may or may not be a sewerpipe depending on who may or may not have actually bothered to clean it, but you can get a new one for $10...

On mine, the recoil spring was pretty worn and the bolt carrier would hit the rear trunion believe-it-or-not, so I used a bolt buffer until I got a new spring and then left the buffer in anyway to shorten the piston stroke and make the rate of fire slightly faster. It's near unnoticable until you bump fire it but it makes the action feel tighter to me. Lol.

OR

Just get a Saiga. :D

Correct. I picked up an AES-10B a couple weeks ago (RPKS) and they have welded in shims on the inside of the magwell to combat the mag wobble. Tell you the truth, side-to-side mag wobble is much more tolerable than the front-to-back wobble.

Also, one thing people forget to mention about mag wobble- AK-47's magazine manufacturers vary so much, if you get a rather tight mag fit out of the gate (especially with a steel mag) then don't expect the polymer mags to fit at all. So far, my AES-10B has a small amount of mag wobble but has accepted every magazine (and fed from it) that I have given it.

And in regards to the barrel- it is an original Romanian barrel. Most likely a NEW barrel, contrary to popular belief. Go check out theakforum.net, and you'll find a wealth of information on them.

And yes, definitely still check for canted sights, gas block, etc. regardless of where the rifle comes from
