proved to be the most durable comabat handgun out there? Don`t get me wrong. I have the Beretta 92FS Inox but also I have my Glock 19. :D I heard a man who said that the Beretta 92FS is the most durable combat handgun. I have always thought that my Glock has the edge in durability? :)
Thank you!

Irfan,

As the owner of both, i tend to agree. The Glock has the edge in durabilty, although both are fine guns and fun to shoot.

Both the Beretta and Sig 226 passed the stringent military tests back in the 80's. They beat many other tough competitors to be the replacement for the Colt .45. The Beretta won the government contract based on its willingness to build a plant in the US and thus offer it at a lower price than the Sig.

I wonder what gun will be considered a good used one in 100 years. Only tight guns in that age range I have seen are all real steel but that was all they had then too.

I bet if the Military was to have that pistol test again, Hk might be a winner. Not that Berettas, Sigs and Glocks are not fine pistols but I just that think that a USP9 would a perfect sidearm for the military. A light weight, polymer, durable as Glock, manual features similar to the 1911, hi cap, accurate pistol. What more could the Army want?

The Walther P99 might be a good candidate too.

Just a thought to ponder...
how many Glocks, Sigs, HK's etc survived WWI, WWI, Korea, Vietnam any who knows what else and are still going?

From what I understand, the government considers the service life of the M9 to be 5000 rounds. I put 5000 rounds through my 58-year-old M1911A1 last year.

What a waste

Typical governmental wastefulness, original specs called for 495 mean rounds between failure with the test 92 waying in at 17,500 rounds. The last article that I read (trying to remember where) has the 92 now with 30,000 rounds MRB. Imagine retirning a gun when it only has 1/6th the rounds before it's first failure.

Damn, probably some disgruntled 1911 owner trying to get them reinstated! ;)

Wait, maybe they are still judging them by the old 1911 standards?

My comment was meant to say since the 1911 has been around
so long it has a proven enviable reputation.
Not a slam on any other design, intended.
IMHO they don't make cars like they used to either.

AC,

If Glocks, Sigs, HK's etc. had been produced before WWI, I'm sure they would have performed very well.
