Wanting to make a Custom GP-100?

Hey guys,

I've been surfing the internet and thanks to some posts here, I had this crazy notion... Make a 'new' PPC styled gun off of the GP-100. :o Does anyone know of a good custom smith that would be interested in something like this? I know what I want it to look like and I have some of the details sorted out.

What do you guys think? Different platform? dumb idea? to expensive? I've always liked the look of the PPC revolvers with the HUGE lug a la Dan Wesson PPC/Action Cup and those huge sight ribs on top. I wouldn't mind sending a blued GP 6" to get chopped up and customized. I like my smiths & colt's to much to do that to them...

I may have Gemini do some work on my GP100. I'll let you know how it turns out if you don't beat me to it.

I have thought about setting up a GP-100 in stainless as my "woods gun". Want it in 6in with 1/2 lug (not common which has stopped me for now).

I think an action job, Bowen sights, polish/chamfer as needed, and maybe porting would be a good set up for what I want it to be.

Want something that can take the heaviest .357's I can shoot for a long time.

Please keep us posted on what you have done and your overall impressions.

I don't like porting and would send them my 4" model to work on if I did it. All I would want would be trigger work and slab slide the barrel. We'll see how it goes, if I opt to do it.

I would look at the Old Grand Master himself. Ron Power at Power Custom. He is semi retired, but still works on a few projects. If I were building a PPC or Bianchi Cup revolver, he would be at the top of my list of gunsmiths for the project.
Ron did a little tuning on my brothers 3" Willy Clapp GP100 a while back. It is running like a Swiss Watch now.

Ohen; Mag-Na-Port does a lot of smith work beyond porting. I recently sent them 3 stainless Ruger's for porting and some unconventional (not listed or advertised) and they did me up right on my SRH that I had the extra work done on. Give them a call and see what they have to say. Smithy.
