Wanting to buy first Sub-compact

Wanting to get a small handgun for protection and target shooting. The two I am considering is a Glock 27 or a Steyr S-series. A good friend has the Glock 27 and it is a great gun. I love shooting it. How does the Steyr hold up. Any other suggestions.:p

I'm having a blast with my Kel-Tec P-11. If budget is a consideration, I would include in your list. Sounds like its not, though, considering your other choices.

How do you like the Steyr's sights? Some people don't like them at all. This should play a large role in choosing a self-defense gun.

Steyr M40

I recently brought a Steyr M40. I really like the gun....It is alittle beiiger that the S Series, but It is still very compact. I have to agree with coyrance, you will either love the sights or hate them. I would suggest trying out any of the guns first, then decide

Never used a Steyr so can't comment about it. Glock 27 or one of the Kahr's would be a good choice.

I carry a Glock 27 and I love it. It wouldn't be a mistake to invest in one.

Another vote for...

...the Glock 27. The Kahr MK-40 would be a good alternate should the Glock turn out to feel too "chunky" for CCW.

I'll move this thread to the semi-auto forum, since that appears to be the nature of the subcompact you're looking for... :)

Try the Kahr MK9. For deep concealment, the Kel-Tec P32.

My hand and the G26 just don't seem to work, but if your hands are a bit bigger than mine the G26 would probably work for you. I don't care for the .40 S&W or the .357 SIG for the non professional. Stick with the 9mm. You will hit what you are aiming at.

Steyr isn't going out of business just changing owners. Steyr sights are alittle different but nice to use. I have an M-40 and G-26 and the Steyr S should be about the same size as the Glock 26/27.

How about a Smith J-Frame 357. (Although shooting full-power 125s out of the thing leaves you in a daze for a second or so.)

Shakespeare,

Steyr is my personal favorite. I've owned lots of Glocks. I've carried a 23, 26 and 27 as my CCW. Go with a full grip. Don't get me wrong, Glock deserves all the credit for their design, but Steyr has taken there idea and made it better. The Steyr has a better grip, I love the sights, less recoil, shorter trigger and for those who care, a Saftey. The Steyr is also reloader friendly. It was designed to be able to shoot lead and has a fully supported chamber. These were all the reasons I bought one. Good luck! :)

Imagine that, jquinteroqs recommends an S-40 ;) I say stay away from Kel-Tec... but that's just MY personal experience. Some are good and others are like mine.

I'm of the oposite opinion from Glock 236. I recommend the S-40 because it's got a full grip, and you may want to get it while the pickins are still there. If it really was the end though (it isn't), it'd be neat to have a great pistol that nobody else has. Otherwise, get the Glock 27 with a +1 Extension.
