Wanted: Clean Magazines

I'm getting rid of my Playboy collection now that I've found religion :D :D :D

Nah, that's not what I meant. What I need is your advice on how to clean a standard 8-round .45 cal magazine on the inside. The one that came with my production 1911 cannot be disassembled, and I am tempted to use a pipe cleaner and Remington bore solution, but I'm afraid it'll snag at the bottom, pulling the spring into odd shapes when I withdraw it. Or should I just soak the whole thing in acetone, alcohol, or gasoline?

Advice?

On 1911 mags push the follower into the mag compressing the spring. Stick a nail through one of the holes in the mag so it goes through the compressed spring keeping the spring compressed. You should now be able to get the follower out of the top of the mag when there is no tension on it. This works on my mecgar 7 and 10 rounders and on my 7 round colt mag too. Do the reverse to put them back together. I use the butt end of a butter knife to compress the spring, it just fits inside the lips of the mag. The only 8 round mags I have are wilson's and it looks like the bottoms come off of those. Mark

What kind of 1911 magazine do you have that can't be disassembled? Are you sure you can't compress the spring and remove the follower from the top?

Thanks railroader. I followed your technique and was able to remove the stubborn piece. It seems that the little tab thingy under the follower had clinched the spring, preventing it from falling free.
