Want to get Started in CAS

Hey,
I am new to the world of cowboy action shooting. I have been looking at guns and gear and it is pretty expensive. I am looking at Ruger Vaquero's for my pistols. They aree a littile spendy for me so I was wondering if there is any inexpensive single action pistols out there. I am not looking for anything fancy just for a good basic pair of pistols. I have also been looking at Stoeger coach guns for a shotgun and possibly a Marlin 336 for a rifle. No specific caliber in mind but something inexpensive to shoot.
Thanks,
AZwarts

Uberti 73's for pistols. Stoeger will work. Marlin 336 is out, has to be pistol caliber. Winchester 92 clone or marlin 94. .38 spcl. is cheapest

What ever you get, be sure to get the same Cal. in both your pistols and rifle. Then you wont have to worry about mixing up your ammo during a shoot. Yes it does happen and it sure will mess up your score if nothing else.
I'll drop you a PM with some links you can check out.

Rugers are worth the extra $$ - Pay once, cry once. You might find a used pair on the SASS wire, The Open Range, or CAS City classifieds.
The Stoeger is fine for a shotgun, I use one myself now and then in the Silverado configuration.
A used '92 or Marlin '94 can be had for $300 or so if you shop around; pawn shops, gunbroker, auctionarms, nickel ads, the classifieds on the various gun boards, etc. I bought a decent Marlin '94 .357 from a pawn shop that had it listed on auctionarms in August with a Buy It Now price of $249 + $35 shipping. One of the FFL's in our club received it for no charge. I picked up an unfired Rossi '92 .357 w/o box or papers from The Open Range classifieds last January for $300. Some .357 rifles are finicky with .38's, but they work fine through my Marlin and a pair of Rossi '92's. They don't work AT ALL through my Browning '92, unless the bullet is seated out to the same overall length of a .357.

If you don't reload, you should maybe think about doing so - a typical match is six stages consisting of ten rifle, ten pistol, and four shotgun... 144 rounds per match, more or less. Two and a half boxes of lead .38's and a couple boxes of shotshells every match, plus $10 - $20 entry fee, fuel, and lunch... plan on spending a C note every match.

Check out THE SASS WIRE, and study up!
