I'm in California and wish to make a private party purchase of a perfectly legal handgun. My FFL is local, but I don't know what one must go through in order to have a gun shipped from Canada. This sale is from an individual to and individual..namely me! Can anyone be of help???

This doesn't look good. I gather that none of you has purchased a handgun from a Canadian seller. Of course, it is rather difficult to own a handgun in Canada. Perhaps the problem is finding Canadian handgun owners.

If you think getting a gun out of Canada is bad, try getting one into Canada. I'm talking about driving across their border check points. If they find so much as a loose shotgun shell rolling around in your car trunk they are going to make your stay miserable at the check point. Wonder if those border dudes still wear red coats?

I can see this gun being shipped to me and then held forever, or taxed at some high rate and then being held forever. That is why I want to hear from someone that has actually gone through the process

Im not sure how many handguns are actaully registered in Canada, but if there was a way to sell them to our US friends it would be good for both of us. It is something that certainly is worth looking into. Over the next couple of years as gun control takes effect, many "law abiders" are disposing of their firearms up here at fabulous prices. Ive seen short barreled handguns, such as a SW 586 357mag Patrolman for sale at a 125 bucks Canadian. Very few folks up here are "grandfathered" so no one is available to buy them. I just recently bought a 1911A1 GM with 4 mags and the original holster in fair to good condition for only 250 bucks.

I dont think you would have a problem getting it shipped from Canada, hell our government would probably pay the freight to get rid of the damn things, the problems would more than likely come from your side of the border. Im sure our 2 governments have talked about the problems that will be caused from all of us Canucks trying to "dump" our firearms across the border when they figure out a way to seize them without having to compensate us.

So if you do figure it out, there will be some real deals up here.....

I agree that the Canada side of things should go smoothly. I'm worried about the US/California side of things.

I understand that things are pretty tough in Canada. It is getting rougher in California also.
