All a beginning M1 collector needs to know is "CMP" (you know that already) and no commercial ammo in an M1. Use only M2 ball-spec?
Where did that come from?????? You should keep the bullet weight to 180s and below and med. burn rate power but other then that?????
I got my M1 back in 80-81, maybe 82, from CMP when it was DCM. Since I've have shot M72, Reloads AND COMMERICAL AMMO. I've had no problems. The only problem I have had with my garand is stretching out the leather slings from use.
I ran sniper schools for the NG when we couldnt get Military stuff using comerical ammo. I run quaqlifications for the Alaska State Militia using garands and when I couldnt' get ammo from military channels (cant use fed funds for State Militias) we used factory ammo. Zero problems.
Military Match '06 veries by year from 47,000 lbs of pressure to 52,000 lbs according to Frankford Arsenal (Hatche's Notebook, Gen J Hather).
What one needs to do is understand there are differant means of testing pressure of firearms between military and commeircal, giving differant results from the same all.
I want to see scientific test, not rumors, because of being around the firing of thousands of comerical ammo being fired out of hundreds of garand dont support such rumors.
Sorry folks, I'm a show me type guy.
