Want to Buy a new scope.

I shoot a Remington Model 700 270 Cal., looking at getting a new scope for it. I don't want to spend a lot of money. I would like to spend 100 to 300 dollars. I know it won't get me the top of the line but i think it will do. I would like to start to shoot longer ranges and looking for a scope where i can adjust the MOA with the turrets.

I have a nikon prostaff 3-9x on my 700 (.308) I have no complaints, and it cost me about $150, if I recall.

that said, I have seen a lot of people on here recommending Vortex scopes and I think I will try one of those out next time I buy. I think Nikon might cost a little extra for the name. Also, I would go with a slightly higher magnification. my scope is fine to 300 yds, but at that range, I wish I had a bit more power for target shooting. as I push my practice out to 600, I will be looking for a scope in the 18-20 ish range
 
As Nemesis mentions, I would recommend looking at Vortex in that price range.

The Crossfire II can be had in every single magnification level in your price range, it is their entry level scope. And their next step up the Diamonback, will be in your price range except for the high level magnification. And the base model (3-9 X 40) of their "higher end" scope, the Viper line will be right at $300.
 
I have a Vortex and newer Redfield Revenge. Granted I had to send in my Vortex for replacement (my fault, long story) and got a brand new in about 2 weeks. No questions asked. Now I do like my Revenge 3-9x52 but I haven't been nearly as rough to it as my CrossfireII so I can't vouch for the durability or warranty replacement. Both are equally clear. Right now, I wouldn't trade one for the other.
 
Here's the problem - $100 to $300 is too large of a range - the dynamics/value/quality change dramatically in that range. The answer to best-value $100 is very different from that same question for $150, $200, $250, and $300.

So, (1) Buying new only, or willing to go used? And (2) What's your actual maximum upper budget limit with tax, shipping, and everything?

But without knowing more and going with your upper limit, the best / best value NEW long-range scope under $300 (before shipping anyhow) is the SWFA Super Sniper fixed 6, 10, 12, 16, or 20x. Get the 16 or 20 for strictly long-range, get the 12 for mostly long range but occasional mid-range shot, or the 10x for all-purpose, where you expect about half your shots will be under 100 yards and half will be over 100 yards. Or get the 6 for a true all-purpose rifle where most shots will be under 100 yards.

You'll have to pick the MOA or Milliradian click version - I picked milliradian but whichever works for you. Note that the fixed 6 is ONLY in MOA version and the fixed 12 is ONLY in millirad. version - but the 10, 16, and 20 are in either of your choice.

Good target turrets, as you request. However, a fixed 20 is obviously not a good choice for a hunting rifle, generally. For a dedicated high plains speed goater, sure.... I mention this because .270 chambered rifles are usually in hunting format, not precision. What's your 700 like? Are you going to do anything *besides* targets with it? If no, get the 16 or 20 SWFA SS and be done with it (new or used).

+1 on the Nikon Prostaff.
I have two rifles with the 3X9X40's BDC.
No quick adjust turrets on mine but I think for the same price ($150.00),
Nikon has the Prostaff line designed for the AR shooter with military style
turrets. Lifetime warranty. No receipt needed. Nice.
 
I will give my vote for the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x42 exterior turrets, 1/8 moa clicks. I have 2 with mil dot reticles Price on the last one I got was 259.00 from Midway, free shipping.. Excellent scope for the money IMHO
