Have a chance to buy a Remington 700 (HB) with woodstock for a excellent price. Would like to know of others who shot the 7MM08 and what your thoughts are on this cartridge. Thanks in advance for any info.

Get the gun. 7mm-08 is a great cartridge, it has more bullet selection then any other caliber for handloaders. it has a similar knock down power to a .308 albiet a bit less. Alot of silouette shooters use it for up to 500 meters for accuracy. I would use it for most of North American games not the heavy ones but medium size. I have a Win mod 70 classic compact with a compact leupold scope the whole rig is just 6 3/4 lbs. makes for a nice woods gun with capabilities of reaching out a far piece...

I am using a load of 41.2 gr of 4064 (this stuff meters terribly) with a 150 gr Sierra spire point boat tail in Rem brass. I am getting 1.125 groups at 100 from a picnic table. I wish NATO had gone to the 7mm instead of 7.62 monicker. I would love to have a FN FAL in 7mm-08. woooohooooo what fun. or a M1A

With a Weaver V3 on my 700 Titanium in 7mm08, I'm getting 3-shot groups of 1" to 1-1/4" at 100 yards; factory or handloads. I'm using the 139- and 140-grain flat-based spire-point types. Data book max with H414 powder, whatever Mr. Hornady sez.

Much has been written on this subject here. Just do a search.

G&A writer Tom Gresham www.guntalk.com says that the 7mm-08 is the best all-around hunting cartridege for North American game. He never said why. But you can e-mail him from his web site to get more info or call him up every Sunday around noon when he does his syndicated radio show.

7mm08 is my favorite deer cartridge. I,m shooting 140 grain factory stuff and 139 gr hornady sst handloads. All are very pleasant to shoot, accurate and kill deer as good or better than anything else i've killed them with from .243 to 300 mag. I've been deer hunting for 25 years and if anyone every asks my opinion of the best deer caliber, it's always 7mm08. Good luck, Weagle

I was skeptical when I bought my 7mm-08, don't ask me why. But when I go hunting now, that is the first gun I grab. The two deer I shot this year with it never even know what hit them. I was using Speer 120 grain bullets. The result was catastophic with a heart/lung shot. I would easily recommend this little booger to anyone. I can't remember what my chrono numbers were but I can check when I get back home. I say go for it, you will be delighted.

7-08 is a great hunting round. I have several deer to my rem700bdl and have found it to be a great carry gun.

Mine has a particular liking to 100 grn seirra bullets and will do 1/2" 100 yrd 5 shot groups with a cool barrel. 1" 5 shot groups can be had from a hot barrel.

How many other calibers can go from 100 grns to 180 grns with no problems?

Also, look at the overall ballistics, the 7-08 is a particularly efficient round. I wanted something faster, so I studied the charts for a long time, and found it was hard to really beat by a lot. I finally settled on a 25-06 sendero for south texas shooting instead.

Concur w/ all the above

Got a 700 classic (7mm-08 this year) on my birthday. Great caliber. Very versitile. Ballistics close to a 270 IMO yet a short action = Fun to shoot.

Thanks to all who posted info. Went ahead and picked the rifle up yesterday. The dealer cost to me was $350(no tax) for this Remington 700 bull barrel 7-08 with Leupold scope mount. Here's a pic of the rifle.
