WOW, steel frame PPQs. Walther has announce that they are making steel frame PPQs starting with the Q5 Match weighing in at 42 ounces. I never saw that coming. The steel Q5 Match will go for around $1400 and is supposedly available now and word is other models will be coming including 4 inch. The aluminum magwell in the picture comes on the Q5 Match Pro model.

Another unverified source says that there will be various springs available from Walther to change the trigger pull weight on all PPQs to suit users needs - "a trigger spring pack (light/standard/heavy) available"

I certainly think more options for the consumer are a good thing, but this really doesn't appeal to me. If I want a metal framed pistol frankly I'd go to options other than a PPQ to begin with, because if I'm willing to accept that weight I think there are other designs I'd prefer (CZ variant, 9mm 1911, etc.)

I think this will be a fantastic option for the competition market. I'd love to feel one.

I don't think I would take it over my Shadow 2, but that's a DA/SA gun, so perhaps a different class or division? I don't actually compete so I don't know the gaming rules and classes.

My local gun store, GAT Guns in Dundee Il, has a factory shoot every March and Walther should be there so I hope I have a chance to try the steel frame PPQ and get a closer look at it. If I like shooting it I might want to pick one up as a fun range gun. I and many others never though Walther would make a metal frame pistol again but boy were we wrong. It is a bit pricey but I am actually glad to see that rather than made to a lower price point cutting corners to be the cheapest in the class.

Those that have handled it so far seem to have been very impressed but it will be interesting to see how actual shooting impressions are. Walther has their own shooting team so I expect this will be an impressive shooter with their feedback during development. The Q5 has been making good headway in competitive circles from what I understand and now Walther looks to be taking it to another level.

It's hard to ignore -- the Shadow II was the sweetest shooting gun I've ever run (all 20 rounds I got to try!) but it sent a benchmark in my head for how "perfect" should feel. I doubt whether I'd ever compete at a level where a $1400+ gun would actually make me any better. My Q5 Match is good enough for now!

Besides, all I probably need is the steel frame. Maybe Walther will sell me one cheap :)

What are people shelling out for the CZ Shadow II? You can do the same with the P-09 with Cajun parts.

AND STILL the PPQ still has a faster reset. If it goes with a lighter spring?

That's the crowd you're appealing to.

I got my Shadow 2 for $1,050 - and you absolutely can not get anywhere close to it with a complete CGW pro package on a P09/P07. Not even playing in the same league. And the Shadow 2 reset is every bit as short as a PPQ or Sig SRT.

Another table top review and more info.

What impressed me was the test target looking like just over one inch group at 25 meters and I believe they shoot that from a rest but not locked in a rest.

The Walther pro shooter Michal Riha had very significant improvement in performance in timed tests versus the poly frame Q5 according to info provided in the video. Myself for my purposes I am just looking at it as a possibility for a very cool and extremely accurate range gun.
