Walther PPX

I typically love most things Walther. I read a glowing report of this pistol in Guns magazine, and as it happens, on my next trip to my LGS, they had one in the case. I don't use this term often, but I think it is, well, unattractive. It did, however, have a very light trigger pull and felt good in the hand. Has anyone shot, or does anyone own one of these? If so, what are your impressions?

I owned one a few months ago but never did fire it. I just bought it to resale because it was going really cheap on gunbroker. As others have said they are ugly guns but I do like the feel of them.

I own one and love it.

I own one. I picked it up not to long ago but I have shot it a fair amount.
Its a great shooting pistol. I've always personally been a .40 or .45 cal kind of guy, but wanted a high capacity 9mm without spending a lot of money. I honestly really like this pistol. It feels good in the hand, its smooth, it has a extremely nice trigger, one of the nicest triggers if experienced without having to have work done. I even like the looks of it honestly, I don't get the people saying its ugly or saying it looks like a Highpoint, it looks absolutely nothing like a high point. Its not the prettiest pistol (that title belongs to 1911's :D)
but it is far from ugly in my opinion, I even think it looks better than Glocks do.
Anyway, if you are thinking about getting one, I highly recommend it, for what you get for the price, I'd say it is well worth it as I am very happy.

I've gone as far as handle one. Never fired one. The looks didn't bother me even though it does look kinda Hi-pointish. The grip felt good, I dry fired it and the trigger felt pretty good. The price was good. I've always been impressed with Walther quality. I just couldn't get past how high the bore axis seemed. So I passed.

Anyone who has fired one think the bore axis is too high? I was kinda wondering if the bend in the grip angle helps to negate the high bore axis.

I didnt feel that the bore axis height compromised recoil recovery at all in my opinion. I was very pleased with the function of it. But it being a full size may have helped with the recoil recovery as well as my PPX being the 9mm model.

The PPX has no manually operated safeties, and doesn’t have a de-cocker. The trigger on the Walther PPX is both excellent and unique, and is referred to as a “pre-set” or “pre-cocked” trigger.

The PPX slide, being rather large, is slightly wider than the GLOCK 17.

Another excellent feature by Walther was their very wise choice in their OEM magazines.
The pistol comes with two 16-round steel magazines, which are manufactured for Walther by the Italian firm Mec-Gar.

The PPX considered by many as the ugly duckling of the family, but this pistol is good where it really counts ....... performance and value.

I'm ashamed to say that I also find them too gross-looking to consider. And I don't even find Glocks ugly.

When you can get the aesthetically pleasing and uber reliable P99AS for about $125 more, I just can't sell myself on the PPX.

It's Walther, though, so I don't doubt quality.

Far better looking than a High Point and even better looking to any Glock to my eyes.

The one that I've shoot was pretty darn accurate. The trigger while DAO is smooth and fairly light and reminds me of the Sig 250's. The grip has a good feel and is very comfortable to my hands. The control layout is well thought out and are easy to operate for me.

I did not have any issues with the bore height. Recoil and muzzle rise was not bad at all and follow up shots were accurate.

I think the PPX is the best model in the value price range.

But is it as accurate as a Hi Point?

@Worc. Nice to know someone else feels the ame way i do. Was starting to think i was the only one lol.

@RX_79V. Very nice grouping there. While i dont have a pic to post at the moment i was very pleased with the accuracy as well. Got tight grouping with the first 10 rnds to check sights/accuracy. Then after that i was just defensive scenerio shooting. But yes very pleased with the accuracy

I really like my PPX after it had to be returned. I had a very tight chamber causing some issues. The other thing I noticed was really bad rattling when my mag was loaded. It does this no matter what I try with both mags, they seem loose and rattle badly. I asked Walther about it and they responded that the mag was designed for 9x19 as well as a for a similar European caliber, therefore is made that way and they could do nothing to change that. The rattle is annoying and does not seem to be an issue with my other guns.

I asked Walther about it and they responded that the mag was designed for 9x19 as well as a for a similar European caliber

A "similar European calibre?" WHAT similar European calibre???

I went through hundreds of emails looking but could not find the specific caliber he mentioned. I wasn't really happy about the explanation.
