Walther P99's torture tests

Two firing pins broke on the P99 that I owned. Below is a quote from a letter a received from Walther in Germany:
The P99 pistol was designed according to the specifications for police pistols of the German Police. In order to get certified as a police pistol the specifications require four guns to be tested according [to] the test specifications. During these tests three guns are fired with 10,000 rounds and one gun is dry fired 5,000 times using dummy cartridges. Other test like hostile environment need to be completed, too. Only two pistols passed these tests and got certified by now. The P99 is one of them being certified.
The other is the HK P10, a version of the USP Compact.

When the Germans hold trials...

...for new police pistols, the results are usually happy ones for handgun enthusiasts.

Previous gems originating from these trials include the P5 (Walther P5), the P6 (SIG-Sauer P-225) and P7 (HK P7/PSP).
